listen to Transylvanian Hunger.
If it doesn't click with you on some level don't bother.

Start with this song:

>atmospheric - Viking - blackened death

Choose one of the above, and from there movie into the regular stuff

Start by listening to Dimmu Borgir like everyone else.

Start with Sunbather then stop

If this is too kvlt for you, you should wok on home, boy.

Thanks boys

I listened to this last night for the first time
The only black metal album I'd heard before this was Filosofem but this shit is unbelievable

Where do I go from here?

And if there's nothing quite like this then just something else with the corrosive lo-fi sound of this and Filosofem. I've tried to get into Hvis Lyset Tar Oss a few times but the opening track starts out 10/10 and then feels like it drags on too long and it loses me

Uno Actu.

try darkthrone and emperor, kind of the essential regarding black metal. Immortal as well, more for the riffs, not so much for atmosphere

You don't. It's a shit genre that prides itself in sounding tinny as fuck and autistically taking extreme metal theatrics too seriously.
Start listening to the bands that originated it and the bands that salvaged the good parts to use on a more polished setting, and only when you're done with it start searching for the less shit bands doing traditional black metal.

Écorché
Paysage d'Hiver
early Peste Noire

What album is this. Reverse search only gives Grateful Dead skelly

read the letters printed on it

I don't live in 19th century germany, I can't read this fractured shit.

Hi DSPGaming

Try Bathory's first 4 albums and then start listening to some Norwegian stuff.

...

Murmuure

How can you leave off Hammertheart? Or even Twilight of the Gods?

This is the album that got me into BM and it's not that long either 10/10.
