koopsta knicca-da devil's playground...where lil ugly mane stole all his shit from
andrés

Holy shit, kill yourself.

being inspired by an entire subgenre!= stealing from 1 person

huh

Just because you know minimal wave and dark entries shouldn't enable you to post this stupid shit

i'm not saying he stole his sound from koopsta specifically, just the 90s memphis scene as a whole. of course all artists have their influences, but i have a problem with white ppl getting endless praise for making music heavily inspired by black artists from white kids who have no knowledge of where that sound comes from, especially when said white artist makes little to no effort to give credit where credit is due.

i miss when Cred Forums wasn't racist

I mean was ~less~ racist ... This is still Cred Forums after all

are you saying i'm being racist?

No I'm saying that no one would point out something like lil ugly mane being white and getting recognition black artists didn't

the thing is white artists have always profited off of the innovations of black artists. i like lil ugly mane's music but he was clearly heavily inspired by artists like skinny pimp, three six mafia, and tommy wright iii. but all the blogs and internet reviewers would have you believe he just pulled his whole style out of his ass somehow, and i don't see lum doing anything to challenge that narrative. this is why cultural appropriation is a problem when white people do it, because when white people borrow shit from black artists, the media (aka other white people) act like the black artists who were making these moves first never existed.

>all the blogs and internet reviewers would have you believe he just pulled his whole style out of his ass somehow
Source? All the press I read goes to great lengths to namecheck memphis rap and chopped & screwed artists.

you're so fucking retarded, cultural appropriation is not a problem and very little people actually believe LUM created this style, people know about Memphis Rap

aside from a lil mention of 3 6, this article implies that he somehow had LESS success because he was a white rapper (not because his music was really esoteric or anything)
thefanzine.com/regarding-lil-ugly-mane-and-abject-music/
sputnikmusic.com/review/59105/Lil-Ugly-Mane-MISTA-THUG-ISOLATION/
this article claims that his lyrics are somehow more "complex" than 90s rap (lol)

Freshly updated.
