Can we talk about The Midnight Cred Forums? I'm really loving their new album and wondered what other people thought of it. What other stuff like this might be worth checking out?
Does anyone else nostalgia hard when they listen to this music? It's obviously pretty new, and I don't even remember the 80s but still. What's that about?

This one is having nostalgic of a period I wasn't even born in, to the point where it almost depresses me. youtube.com/watch?v=lo4C9KpyCCo

That was another good one. When I saw the thumbnail I actually thought you were going to post this m.youtube.com/watch?v=18-Ye2L3ej8
Listening to that literally made me go back and watch the Back to the Future trilogy this week.
I know exactly what you mean about feeling a bit sad though. Sort of like your best friend when you were kid is moving house and you know you won't ever see him again.

I like the EP a bit more, but it was a great listen.
The Midnight really sticks out to me as someone who takes roots from retrowave but still makes it his own. They have a voice, and many other retrowave musicians all sorta sound similar.
Yea I think the eps good too, especially the instrumental mixes. The Years instrumental version makes me bite my lip haha.
I've been really into this genre for about the last 5 years or so, and The Midnight is probably the artist im most consistently in to. It's just really good stuff. As you say, stands out a little.

Where the fuck did the ultra sheriff bandcamp page go?
That's not a reason for allowing subpar vocals to sneak their way onto your music.
And no, the 80s are not just "an influence", the point of synthwave is literally to immerse the listener into an idealized version of the 80s, so while it doesn't have to be the exact same thing, it shouldn't remind you of other decades.
might be better if you removed the TRAP-INFLUENCED HI-HATS. I mean you could find that sort of thing on some synthfunk tracks form the 80s but it was too rare to be reminiscent of it.
>it shouldn't remind you of other decades. I disagree. I find Retrowave to be a culmination of recent electronic work, in the aesthetic of the 80s time period.
Though, it's a broad genre, so I wouldn't mind if certain artists kept to more of an overall true 80's theme, while others experiment.

>Speaking of EBM, why is Perturbator the only guy who openly takes inspiration from it? because no one wants to copy his style now.
I'd argue that Dance with the Dead and MoXX play around with the ideas though.

Not that there's necessarily any synth tunes in them, they just fit the aesthetic black magic M-66 appleseed (1988) metal skin panic Madox-01

You know, there's enough untapped inspiration in 80s music to experiment a LOT more than by simply adding trendy contemporary sounds (like 2000s electropop vocals and trap hi-hats) into your music.
If a synthwave artist decided to take inspiration from Nitzer Ebb and Psychic TV, now THAT would be experimental.
Jace Wright
damn right.
Here, Blondi Bee and Candy Evans.
Now get me synthwave that sounds like they look.
Angel Torres
Shit I meant to add that line at the bottom, it concerns the whole list.
