Add to that the matter of vinyl cutting, where larger amounts of stereo low-frequency information can cause damage to the cutting stylus or skips in the finished product due to excessive playback stylus travel.

It actually goes back to mastering vinyl, where the sound is literally cut into the recording media.
Mastering engineers had problems with bass in the early days of stereo - the groove in the record has to contain twice as much information (music, whatever). Also, bass can be problamatic on vinyl, because large amounts of bass mean larger grooves cut, and therefore smaller "walls" between the grooves. This can make it easier for the record to skip.
The easiest solution is to just make everything below a certain frequency the same ("mono") so it can be cut into the vinyl with less problems.

Remove that stupid swoosh in the intro, also the strings came in too early and too hard. Otherwise its good, I like the main riff thing a lot.

cut the cymbal/crash and mix it properly, other than that you got a decent beat, not anything groundbreaking but most rappers would probably spit on it.
What is wrong with your kick+mix? Your sidechain sounds fucked up breh
the vocal sounds out of tune sometimes, not sure if creative choice or not. pretty sick otherwise. your hi hats are pretty jokes. the congas/toms/ whatever sound the slightest cheesy and fake.

Hey guys I'm new to music and wondering about compression. What determines the instruments you should compression. I've seen breakdowns of songs and seems like some people compress every track. If this is correct how do I use this without my track seeming overly compressed?
I made this last night messing around with FL Studio. I'm new to music production so it's not that good.
Ian Davis
So here's my rig
>i5 4460 >8 GB ram >Scarlett 2i2
I'm running my guitar through the 2i2 into reaper at 64 buffer size, running through a bunch of VSTs and S-Gear as my amp sim. However at this configuration I get the occasion click and pop, any idea how I can reduce them without increasing buffer size?
Also I noticed that running S-Gear natively without any DAW doesn't introduce any popping at all, whereas running S-Gear solely on REAPER introduces some popping. What's going on here? Would changing to another DAW like ableton live 9 help?
Hunter Perry
>Wall fuck What did he mean by this?
Dominic Brooks
>What determines the instruments you should compress Think about how you want the sound to sound, and see if compression will accomplish that. For live instrumentation you'll often want to use is to balance out the level, since human playing is imperfect and often too dynamic. You can use compression to reduce the dynamic range (the range between the quietest sound and the loudest sound).
This is a fifth day of my first big project I think, I said to myself I'll finish it this week but I guess it will take a little longer. I took a pause from it for a day because I have been listening to it too much, and then I mostly just tweaked the mix.
I'm planning to compose a completely different intro (similar to its ending) and redo some parts, as well as possibly change some instrumentation, but currently I'm stuck at mixing because I rarely worked with this many channels and I'm kinda struggling to figure out how to mix it properly and wondering if some channels should be muted in some parts in order to clear the overall sound. I even think maybe it's a problem with my levels, but I'm not sure.
Tell me what you think and what I should focus at the moment, thanks. Even a day off is not enough for me to reset my ears so I need some help.

Hey so I have a question.
I have a basic condenser mic I think a mxl120 and I need to record a friend playing and singing at the same time. Since he doesnt like to play then sing how can I record him and get a decent quality if it's just in my bedroom?
Ayden Jackson
Ive used both and I'd go with Ableton myself
Austin Sanchez
Let's wait for the final mixdown, and we will judge then.
Depends on your style. I heard that Ableton is more electronic-oriented.
Angel Kelly
Is ableton live 9 lite any good for production, assuming I don't really need all the stock instruments that comes with the full version of live 9? Are there any limits that would seriously undermine the live 9 lite's ability as a full fledged DAW?
Can it do automation, MIDI, the usual kind of stuff?
its like a portastudio with midi, would get standard
Ryder Phillips
That would be because of Reaper's overhead being added to S-Gear's, think about the data flow just for your guitar sound and what your CPU does to manage that:
Using ASIO drivers and a simplified flow model (cpu also responsible for USB data flow to and from the audio hardware although A/D-D/A conversion is handled within the audio hardware)
>S-Gear hosted as a VST within Reaper: Hardware input>ASIO driver>Reaper input>Reaper VST interface>S-Gear input>S-Gear processing>S-Gear output>Reaper VST interface>Reaper output>ASIO Driver>Hardware output
And that second one doesn't take into account any processing done by Reaper's mixer section, it's a lot more overhead than standalone.
Evan Morgan

Ayden Brown
Use standalone if all you need is S-Gear, and VSTHost if you need to process the signal in addition to S-Gear

It's good to remind yourself from times to times that being a cynic defeatist is not gonna help you achieve any of your goals in life in any way, but I hate people who denies the existence of any kind of determinism. Warren Buffet's father was a politician, a businessman and a friend of Murray Rothbard, not a factory worker. There is more reasons to why he is rich as fuck now than "he worked his ass off".
Thomas Wilson
Alright I just tried using ableton live 9 lite that came with my 2i2 and bam, I could load a couple of reverbs and delays without any popping at all, keeping cpu load under 25%. Sweet.
Nolan Hughes
Sorry for the Cred Forums example, I should have use the exemple of Mozart and Beethoven who were born in families of musicians and composers.

Self improvement speeches and books are often somewhat cringy and ultimately useless, but if anything has seriously helped me and what I would recommend to anyone to listen to is this speech by Jim Rohn:
Kind of eight bit inspired music, with fucktons of reverb and delay. Used Ableton as usual.

Velocity is obviously not the perfect tool when it comes to making oneshots sound like they're actually being played live. (Since the tone usually changes a lot with loudness in the real world.) But what is? a lowcut is certainly not ideal either. I guess if you had oneshots of the same drum sound recorded live with varying loudnesses it would work but that's not what I'm trying to achieve here. I also don't mean a drum sound bank plugin or anything like that. Just one shot samples.
Nathaniel Ramirez
Why would you like some fake praise if you could get the truth and actually improve instead?

A combination of velocity tied to volume, also affecting low-pass cutoff and volume envelope decay time is useful. Softer hits usually result in sounds that are shorter.

it's fantastic but they charge if you want to use it seriously. The advantage is tpb has a very sparce number of shit to choose from. Most people uploading their r2rs on tpb are getting them from extrator or audionews. Why is it better? There's more shit and it's more reliable

I think this is fine if your dream is simply to make music and enjoy yourself doing it, but if your goal is to make a career out of it, there's gonna be some "grind" to it. Because then you have to get good at things that aren't music related, like marketing yourself, knowing how to navigate the industry, choosing people to work with, etc.

I really wish people would stop acting like spending money makes you a goy. Pirate it if you really can't afford it, but all this software is far from free to make.
