How exactly was Reign in Blood ahead of its time? We already had stuff like Bathory's s/t and Possessed'd Seven Churches when it was released. It wasn't exceptionally heavy, brutal, "scary" or anything like that, and it sure as hell wasn't technical or complex. Also Bonded by Blood from Exodus was already out at the time if you wanted some fast, aggressive thrash (with much better riffs too). Also, Pleasure to Kill was released on the same year and makes Reign in Blood look very tame in comparison. I would very much like to know what makes the album so groundbreaking and ahead of its time in your opinion.

I mentioned Bathory and Seven Churches because those albums were actually ahead of their time and pretty much created whole new genres (black metal and death metal respectively). Reign in Blood is just a mediocre thrash album and compared to the previous two albums I mentioned it wasn't particularly extreme, heavy or brutal even back when it was released.
