I think you're over simplifying Berserk, you need to read the manga to get the jist of it, it straight up brings the questions of nihilism and evil for a greater good to the table, it's not so much about the characters as it is about showing this reality in an unpleasant way.

Spoiler: In the manga you realize that the apparent selfishness of Griffith is about bringing to life a better world for everyone. He does this with a pat on the shoulder from God itself. But the price he forces everyone else to pay in order to fulfill his dream and at the same time accomplish this godly pursuit could be described as evil. However he does achieve peace but should peace built on blood and injustice be destroyed to bring about more war and destruction? These are questions you can apply to todays real world as well, for instance if you are a Cred Forumsack you could recognize an analogy with Islam, where if Islam conquered the world, then there would be world peace (as long as everyone is from one sect) but the price to pay would be our humanity. Modern western society has surrendered to nihilism and that may very well be what happens. That is what happens in Berserk as well. It's of course not the most philosophical thing ever, but it does make you wonder about these things.

I feel the same way. I use to watch the usual shit and then some in terms of anime. But once I was somewhere around 18-20 years old (im 22 now) it just started seeming more and more cringy and I just stopped watching.
