Anything from Gost, Perturbator, Scattle, Dance With the Dead, Carpenter Brut, Dynatron, Mega Drive or Dan Terminus. Those are the ones I listen to most.
you forget lazer hawk, friend
All awersome
Agreed
music
Carpenter Brut - Paradise Warfare is fucking awesome
youtu.be
Could someone here explain the differences between Synthwave and Vaporwave for me please. Serious question, and I am curious to know. TY
This guy's stuff is pretty good too.
That made me want to take flight
Just literally lift off the ground...
TBH I'm not sure. I know that I like more stuff tagged with synthwave than vaporwave, but I really couldn't tell you what the main difference is.
Its an awesome track. I think this one is almost as good:
youtu.be
This guy is a fur fag though
I just ignore that as best I can. Stick with that album and its all good.
I think this is the best track on the album: youtu.be
Fair enough. Synthwave does also remind me of French house...artists such as Kavinsky...I'm not so sure there are defined lines between the three, and are maybe more subtle distinctions.
u got a playlist somewhere i can steal?
this is great thank u
Thanks for mentioning Kavinsky, enjoying it so far.
It's like sucking the cock of God...
yw :)
Anyone interested in some straight up synthwave should checkout Lost Years. All their stuff is great.
This thread just introduced me to this music, I want more!
This is all amazing
bump, my kind of music
Absorb
Awesome user. I just stumbled onto it a few months ago and it blew my mind. Like this was the music I was looking for all my life.
This EP is worth checking out too along with all the other stuff already mentioned: division83.bandcamp.com
This is pretty much responsible for the trend going mainstream
Aaaand I just bought all his stuff. So yeah, thanks again :)
i havent heard a lot but 2 of my favorites are
HOME - Decay
HOME - Resonance
and this of course
This one is straight fire
I've been getting more into synth wave and I'm loving it. Always rocked to the classic kavinsky. If you haven't heard of him do a search. He did the song for the film drive.
Now to this...
The soundtrack to the film turbo kid has been my jam for a while now. The film is great and the soundtrack is even better! If you're a fan of Mega man you'd wanna check this out.
Mah nigga
is there some new shit that sounds like the beginning of this?
The fuck is the difference between all these "waves"? Is Vaporwave any better?
I have to say I'm becoming a whore for this shit, though
Dude, wow. Big props to you for supporting the music and musicians you love instead of just ripping it off.
Just hearing this from another music fan has made my day. :)
Another for GUNSHIP, really love this stuff.
dubs for great song
Here is an intro song if anyone is new here
Musiq video is also awesome for this one
A+
Totally radical 80s for life
youtube.com
One of my favorite synth wave tunes right here. Enjoy!
Haha, that's awesome to hear. Honestly before I got into less mainstream music I used to pirate everything, but now I feel like supporting these artists because the music is just awesome. Big plus if its on Bandcamp too, I love that site.
Where the fuck did you dig this up from?
Interesting though...
here you niggas go
youtube.com
A damn firestorm, awesome track
Here's a screenshot of my Synth Wave playlist if anyone is interested.
Currently listening to this
I felt that way too, haha. "Why does (insert mainstream artist) need my money? They've got enough!"
But helping these artists by buying their music and merch goes a long way for sure. :)
Just bought this album a few days ago, great stuff on there.
thats a good song but I dont think you know what straight fire means
youtube.com
Not bad, i liked
Listen the full album of HOME - Odyssey
Yea one of my favs should have more views being the gem it is
Don't forget about those early 90's asslord
love the feel of this one
youtube.com
The synthwave trend just feels so fake. I guess because I grew up in the 80's is just doesn't sound right. I've tried a few of them but I just end up going back to actually old synth music. I just can't put my finger on it.
Spoiler alert for anybody who hasn't seen Bladerunner
"80s" is like 82-92
93+ is 90s
I'm a pretty big fan of the Dynatron stuff, here's a good track from them youtu.be
Care to share some older stuff which floats your boat?
Is it Giorgio Moroder type stuff?
I could see that, but for all of us born in the 90's on hearing this stuff now is amazing.
>hasn't seen Bladerunner
I will kill you
I love photos like these...traffic lights, street lights, stranded phone booths.
nah i understand how you feel, i listen to a lot of old dnb and the new shit doesnt have the magic the old stuff has, new synth is pretty good sometimes tho, try some VHS Glitch
youtube.com
Just for you (and everyone else because its a great track) youtu.be
I don't even know what the fuck Synthwave is, but I love your image. Where do I get started?
And a bonus track that's equally awesome and totally related
youtu.be
Urban art photos are pretty cool
Some content from this week

here free your mind

If you haven't read 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?' then you can shut the fuck up, too. Bladerunner is 6/10. 'A Scanner Darkly' is the only P.K.D. story that's gotten a decent film treatment.
Pretty much from the top of this thread, everything posted so far is pretty great.
Honestly it's more of a feeling than anything. Probably nostalgia. There's plenty of genuine 80s synth on youtube. That's one of the nice things about this is people putting all of this old music online finally.
Don't get me wrong some of the new stuff is great. I'm probably just becoming an old man.
>Don't get me wrong some of the new stuff is great. I'm probably just becoming an old man.
nah as I said I understand, the older stuff just has a feeling to it you cant really recreate.
Thank you, I most definitely will.
Oh, believe me, I'm saving it all to a playlist on youtube to really delve into. Now, I've only been skimming and clicking on links but some of it reminds me of this cool sounding techno song I heard one by a group called something like laserhawk. It was set to the opening of an old cartoon called sliverhawks.
This is a killer album youtu.be
While I agree, this shit seems to encompass the late 70's up to about '97
Is this what you're taking about user? youtu.be
I have seen it, but a lot of younger people who are getting into this kind of shit might not have, dildoface
Never see these guys posted, pretty good shit
youtube.com
HOLY SHIT YES! THANK YOU! I thought I bookmarked it, but never could find it again! I love this song!
Mother fucking Trevor Something
Did post some of their stuff earlier and I completly agree. I love it for how clean it is, its just pure synthwave. Very high quality stuff.
i love this song so much i edited it to make it about 5 and a half min long with the main/middle part looped. sooo good
No problem, check out some of their other stuff too, its also awesome:
Sorry I missed it, great album your song of choice is from
If anyone loves saxophone (and who doesn't) this is an awesome song youtu.be

This song gives me a boney
song i posted was Roof of Love, great album regardless glad youre checking it out.
Can I gush a bit? I love the whole idea of this genera. I've always been a huge fan of 80s and 90s movies, music, cartoons, and anime so this music and the aesthetic it represents brings me back to when I was growing up. No, I didn't grow up during the 80s, I was born in 88, but being from a...less than well to do family I didn't get a lot of new stuff. So, a bunch of stuff I experienced was from that time-frame, and beforehand, being passed down from my parents. At one point I had had a pinball machine! That was really rad! I'm still kind of into that fashion, so this is just too cool!
i was born in 84 and i love synthwave, it's taken something obscure and made it tubular.
Trubo killer nuff said.
yeah its great shit, welcome aboard.
youtube.com
The exact opposite for me. Loved 90s music , hated the 80s. Love the retrowave scene.
Fuuuuuuuuuug
any good online radio stations out there?
I found this a couple weeks ago and can't get enough of it, good post
lol. I did that a lot my first time here, back in 2005, and that was before Cred Forums could make links, so you're good
If you didnt check out its got some awesome sax too.
Here's a decent Spotify playlist
play.spotify.com
I posted that one, I hadn't heard this one.
The wave of synths
soundcloud.com
I like hitting SoundCloud for a lot of this stuff, most artists have their stuff on there. Guess that's the benefit of it not being so mainstream.
Analog synthwave ha!
The 80's is strong with this one.
i also love these selfmade video clips to the songs. Made from old Cartoons or movies. Especially the ones where they are racing with nice cars. They add greatly to the feeling of these songs.
LazerHawk - King of The Streets

can you tell what movie these scenes were taken from?

another Playlist
youtube.com
i currently like this song but its not synthwave
Andrew Applepie - Secrets
youtube.com
VHS Glitch- Streets On Fire
Another good track youtu.be
Great Thread is win!
Something I just found that's pretty awesome
Dan terminus - The Wrath of Code album is good.
Chasm is one of the better ones on it.
youtu.be
Does anyone know something that would fit well into a short clip of cinematics? Maybe 30 seconds to 2 mins of good parts? Carpenter Brut - Paradise Warfare is really nice but he's so hard to get ahold of so I can legally use it on YouTube
the alien steals ferraris movie was called "the Hidden"
It is in some ways similar to the "bodysnatchers" movies alll centered around posssesion by an alien/demonic force.
i now found two clips using it. Warning after watching these clips the original chase scene in the movie feels really weak.
Kavinsky - Wayfarer
youtube.com
this was the one i was looking for
LAZERHAWK - "PEDAL TO THE METAL"
youtube.com
It's not strictly synthwave, but at the start of Van Halen's 1984 album, the short intro has some tasty synth work. Whenever I think of 1984, I think of this intro:
youtube.com
"1984" 00:00-01:08
Wow, bad ass tune.
Oath, fucking great album.
Before Payday went to shit, they released a Hotline Miami inspired DLC. Simon Viklund absolutely killed it with the first track:
Now i found the Mad Max Interceptor Car one
Last 3 Images fucking Related
This Clip is what i wanted
KAVINSKY - Roadgame (clip non-officiel)
youtube.com
another one using the movie
Mad Max - Raining Steel

Second, incredible album. Love to play it over the speakers at work.
Bourgeoisie, Judge Bitch & Power Gloves haven't been mentioned.
>Good headphones required

Don't know if this one's been mentioned today but the Blood Dragon soundtrack is pretty good.
I love gunship fam, same with Carpenter Brut and Perturbator

found this one recently, really like it

Must preserve Greatness for Future Generations
Check out Synergy (Larry Fast). Such an innovator - he was doing this stuff when personal computing meant an Apple II.
"Digital synthesizer computer programming by Greg Sims. Equipment used on this production manufactured by: Moog Music Inc., Oberheim Electronics, Sequential Circuits, Paia Electronics, 360 Systems, Musitronics, MXR, DBX, MCI, Eventide Clockworks, Sony, Teac-Tascam, EMT, The Synergy System, Apple Computer Corp., Bell Labs Digital Synthesizer, Deltalab Research. "
All about the FM-84...
This thread has a lot of the good stuff covered, there's still more out there...like this track.
OK, this one goes sort of the totally opposite way. I was thinking about ground-breaking synthesists, and the 1980's era that Synthwave references, and of course Jan Hammer came to mind. But back then the challenge wasn't to make "synth music," since that was still sort of a novelty. The driving idea was to get synthesizers to be accepted as fully-fledged ensemble instruments. So when Jan got done with his gig with Jeff Beck he went back to fronting his own band, this time with the idea of doing heavy guitar rock but with the synth instead of guitar. That lineup released only one album, "Black Sheep," but on it is this incredible piece of synth work - a cover of Jimi Hendrix' "Manic Depression."
There is no guitar on this recording.
(Included in the thread as to give an idea of what other people of that era were doing with synths.)
Vidfeo not available
Nice work from Michael Boddicker.
More from when doing this was really, *really* fucking hard.
Don't know them, will have to check it out now.
Unfortunately no. But it's all really easy to find on Bandcamp and YouTube. Just search the synthwave or retrowave tags on Bandcamp. There's tons of good stuff, honestly too much for me to have time to check out
This certainly deserves to be in here.
Amusing (or perhaps sad) anecdote about this one: when FM wanted to release this on CD (it having been originally released on vinyl) they discovered the master had been lost in the depths of Passport Records, so the CD release is actually a transfer from clean vinyl.
I dunno if the idea of releasing a CD that's actually a recording of vinyl is too meta-hipster.
Great album, I love Slaughter In Robot Village.

Roger Powell, who after playing keys on stage for years tore up his hands went on to do software at Apple.
Go back? Hell, Carpenter was just out playing this live (still is).

I like the retro feel of this music but its just too damn 80s. I'm just trying to find that gem that makes it all click. Its just so offensively retro and I want to be a part of it.
I like the video for this. Is all original video from 1980s CGI demo reels.
That was the worst part of the 90's. I was born right at the end. Trust me it go much better until about 2000 then everything went turbotard
This is me. I got hooked on new DNB but the older I go the more Jungle it sounds. More athentic to its roots. Most DNB now is like Dubstep or Nuero but I feel there are some artists that really have their own voice in the mix and I try to look for those ones.
Shiiiiit, nigga - that's the old Abel - Information International - Digital Productions stuff.
Fuuuuuuuuck.
