I generally listen to older metal bands. Dark tranquillity, opeth etcetera etcetera. First song by Ghost that I heard was cirice and fucking wow, wat a song. Reminiscent of some old Mercyful fate and Slayer or something. Great stuff.

Yeah, been listening to Ghost since Opus Eponymous. I'll always love Ghost, but I have mixed feelings about how Meliora was more instrument oriented rather than having prominent synths, which is why I think Infestissumam was so fucking good. I can only hope their next album will have more.

As for other bands, but I'm sure you've already heard of them, is Tribulation, whom they've toured with. King Dude as well.

Actually their appearance has nothing to do with black metal. They have the retro gimmick and overdo the "rock 'n' roll is Satan's music" meme that existed a few decades ago. It's all part of the retro aesthetic. They're kind of the Gloryhammer of 70's and 80's hard rock. I think knowing the context helps a lot to understand their music.

Not OP, but I get where you're coming from. I liked Meliora due to the fact that the software used for recording was of higher quality. If they remastered Infestissumam I'd probably feel the same way. Regardless of what album they're pretty talented. I love how you can literally hear the evolution of the band in every album though.

Personally I can't stand it. Deafheaven, Liturgy, Alcest... To me it sounds like they tried to make black metal safe and acceptable but lost the soul of the genre in the process.
