The music he makes is some of the very best, no question about that, but as a "guitarist" he is just ok. A lot of what he puts out may be near impossible to enjoy musically, yeah, but he's shown that he can be soulful at times too (and no, I'm not referring to just Soothsayer). Discounting such technically proficient players who have a deep understanding of music theory is ridiculous. While that alone doesn't make them gods of the instrument, it shows a dedication and even passion for music that honestly most of today's "artists" are completely lacking. Guys like Vai, satch and Malmsteen, as well as Paul Gilbert, Shawn Lane and yes, Buckethead, and so many more. They are fantastic players who do what they do because they love it.
