I mean I like manuals for the fun factor and all, but come on. If you're using the car daily, commuting, going from A to B to C, etc - an automatic is the way to go.

It's progressed to the point where the fuel economy is virtually the same and the performance is a lot less annoying in city environments.

A lot of my buddies at dealerships, car shops, etc also say that manual will probably be extinct in a decade or so except for straight up racing conditions and luxury vehicles.

Pickups are a different deal altogether. I won't own an automatic pickup. Still, most pickups start out in life as fleet vehicles or service vehicles, and those are almost exclusively automatics. There's enough farm use pickups to keep standard transmissions an option, though.

Okay so I owned a SAAB 2002 Turbo 9.3 hatchback. It was automatic and I absolutely loved it. It was fast and handled really well. I now own a 2012 Camaro. It's manual and I like driving it and it's a nice car but it was nowhere near as fun as the SAAB if I could get a "new" 2002 SAAB Turbo hatchback I'd trade my Camaro for it in a heartbeat.

black belt is only considered awesome in the west. for some reason, people think black belt is some sort of proof of mastery. a black belt means you've learned the basics, but it says very little of the quality. when it comes to people severely handicapped, you rarely ever see them in japan, but in the west we tend to accept them as humans, so we let them train. when it comes to severe physical handicaps, a grade is more on a mental level, if they can't do the stuff.

besides, it's up to each and every school to decide what they consider black belt level. there is no international standard. a black belt can either be really good, or pretty shit. it's not meant to rate the quality.
