Your wording is vague at best - it can be interpreted so many ways.

If you mean picking an actual random number and then rolling a die (essentially rolling the same die twice) the chance is 1/36. If you just mean rolling a die and picking a number (like rolling 2 dice) it's 1/6.

Everyone thinks it's 1/6 because, if you pick 1 for example, the chance of the dice landing on 1 is 1 in 6.

But the question states that you pick a RANDOM number between 1 and 6, which means that both of the numbers are picked at random, which OP thinks means that the chance is 1/6 times 1/6.

This is wrong however, because it doesn't matter which number is being picked at the first step. The first number that is being picked isn't gonna be a 1/6 chance of being the right number, but a 1/1 chance, because no matter what you pick, the first number will always be 'correct'.

if it is a six sided dice, 1/6 chances to get your number, if it is a higher or lower sided dice, scale accordingly.
for a D100, there are 1/100 chances of getting your number.
