Most people buy what they can afford, and their money goes where the cheap milk/cheese/bread/meat comes from. And they sure as fuck are not coming from local farms.
Also, many people want certifiable "green" or ecological food, which requires regulation for certification anyway.

You'll get some people to buy local stuff from smaller farms, but thats a minority.

Big corps, if they get to run freely will create monopolies and crush all opposition any way they can.

Democracy turns government into nothing more than a contest between opposing factions, each one attempting to force the others to submit to how they think a society should operate.

Honestly, having one centralized control center to attempt to run the lives of millions of people is irrational.

There is no reason why humans cannot form local societies with like-minded individuals. Some communities would be socialist, others communist, some would be different flavors of anarchist, minarchist, some groups might even revive monarchies.

Local competing forms of organization would be better than monolithic states that take away your right to organize as you see fit. It would do away with the need for us to fight each other constantly, because we'd all be somewhere organized the way we want to be.

The biggest problem with huge empires in the olden days was communication. Creating a cohesive public when it took two months getting a message from one end to another is haaaard.
Now, that's easy. And that means its time for the common man to reap the possible boons of big countries.
For example, if you give away control of tax collection on a state level and say that that's a Federal level thing only in the US you'd save billions each year by centralizing administrative resources, and leaving only operative resources "in the field".
Same goes for police.
Same goes for medical care.
Same goes for public transportation.
Same goes for fire safety.

But the only branch in the US that has really done this is the military. As a result of this they can swing their enourmous political clout-bat at the senate piñata and watch the chocolate dollars rain.
