They're criminally underrated. And it really is a shame, as they've been great to watch.
The media in the US has almost entirely ignored them, save for a few woeful articles in the New York Times. Even information online about them is scare.
The UK has done an infinitely better job at covering them on channel4's website. The US streaming website is very poorly constructed in comparison with a layout that sometimes makes it difficult to find out what events and which game match-ups are actually happening at what time. As far as I can tell, some events are not even streamed, and full replays of past events are sometimes not even available, even when the US have performed well in them.

Channel 4 has done amazingly well on coverage, they really promoted London hard which made the games sell out and got 8 million people to watch the T44 100m final in the UK.

I wish the US would have done something similar, or put up even half of the fanfare the Olympics get. Can you imagine the hype that could have been generated from the US women's two sweeps in track racing, or Deja Young winning gold in both the T47 100m AND the 200m? The US could have easily exerted their power over the scheduling the way they do for the Olympics to get those events live in prime time. But Instead absolutely nothing. NBC is not even covering the games on their main channel, and what little coverage there is has been relegated to their cable sports network only, which is usually just small recaps of events, or else delayed games at one in the morning. And even when they do finally show games live, like the wheelchair basketball, the American commentators are garbage compared to the British/international OBS commentators. The whole affair has been pretty disgraceful, to be quite honest.

Write to them and complain. It can achieve more than you might think.

The IAAF is debating it. If he jumped with his real leg it'd probably be fine. They're worried than the blade is more springy than a real leg and gives an advantage though, which is the leg he jumps on.

Even if he jumped with his real leg, it's still not right. He's competing with an entirely different bodypart from every other athlete, therefore it's useless to compare the both.

I think it was insane Pistorius was allowed to compete on the regular olympics aswell, for example.

What about a single lower arm amputee in a running event however?

I'd be ok with stuff like that. The arm isn't the main limb being used in the event after all and is literally only there for balance.

I'm not an expert either, but it just seems silly to me to let people compete with people who have completely different legs.

Seems a fair stance on it.

It's just like i'd let a single leg amputee compete in archery, or a single arm amuptee in table tennis. As long as the replaced limb isn't heavily used in the sport i'd be okay with it. When you're running on it however, you're heavily using it. And indeed especially with the long jump there's the fact that a fake leg could be a lot springier than a normal leg.

The problem I see is that if you let people who are really good at the Paralympics move up into the regular Olympics, that sends the message that the Paralympics are somehow a second-rate competition. They're supposed to be equal. The "para" is short for "parallel".

That's only logical if you are comparing number of athletes from the country to medals overall won by country. And still there are team sports/races (4-10 athletes that will count as only 1 medal).
