Yep, they're just sitting in a room watching a video feed of a race. They do have a crew on site doing interviews, but the call of the race is just people in a room. They might as well be on Mars.

That's why my favorite moments are when the announcer audio goes out and I can just hear the race itself (this is just as true for Formula 1 on Sky). So much better.
