Only Yesterday is objectively the best Ghibli film

Only Yesterday is objectively the best Ghibli film.

>that scene at the end when all the kids cheer her on as she gets off the train and goes back to be with the man she loves

Ghibli feels are best feels

yeah it is desu

>27 year old virgin girl remembering her first period: the movie
i'm trolling, it's a great film

>that 'SHE'S NOT A NORMAL CHILD' scene
hold me

Nice contrarian opinion

The best Ghibli film is objectively Grave of the Fireflies

I think big words confuse you, you mean subjective

>Only Yesterday
>using "objectively" to describe subjectivity
Screw you, best movie is Pom Poko.

Great movie, but it was so fucking heavy handed. Even by Ghibli standards.

It was also fucking funny.

Really? I felt that way about Only Yesterday.

But I like Japanese ghost stories, so I thought them spooking the fuck out of people was hilarious.

The majority opinion ITT seems to be Takahata > Miyazaki
is that true?

Takahata always tries something new
Miyazaki just makes the same movie over and over

No. Not for me anyway, Marnie is incredible but GotF was tacky and on the nose and too schmaltzy. My least favorite Ghibli along with Kiki.

It's a rooting for the underdog kind of thing. Takahata is the man and he's got a number of masterpieces, but no one compares to Miyazaki, in Japan or elsewhere.

Takahata had a much better farewell than Miyazaki though.

I disagree, but Kaguya is fantastic and among the best of his movies.

I'd say it is his best. Who should take up their mantle now, Yonebayashi, Hosoda or Shinkai?

I prefer Only Yesterday, in my opinion the best application of his calculated approach to filmmaking.
I'm not fond of Yonebayashi, I don't see him doing anything more than passable with or without Ghibli. Hosoda makes dull, family-friendly popcorn flicks; in my opinion he's been going downhill since Digimon. He's talented but he doesn't seem to care for art film. I've never liked a Shinkai movie. Samey and lacking in ambition. I think there are a number of good filmmakers in Japan, but I don't think any will ever have the universality that Miyazaki and Takahata did. I think "picking up the Ghibli mantle" is less important than carving out new paths, though, so that's not a bad thing.

OK... you seem to know your shit gimme some recs.

Thanks for the rest user will keep my eye on these nips. and what I'm looking for is generally good shit, no matter the genre. My favorite tv show of all time is pic related so take that as you will.

>nothing by Oshii
>doesn't even consider Oshii an equal to Miyazaki or Takahata
I smell baseless bias.

sorry, but this is the best Ghibli film.

Space Dandy is A+

I'm personally not a fan, but I also wasn't trying to make a "best of" list. If I were to lay out a canon he'd appear a number of times, don't you worry.

Pom Poko feels a little overlong to me. Watching Only Yesterday just yesterday reminded me how good Takahata can pace out scenes.

>reccomending animu movies
>no angel egg
>no akira
>no wolf children

Nigga, that's a funny way to spell Porco Rosso.

Everyone's seen that already.
