It's the best episode because they mention Winnipeg in it, my glorious hometown.
I really like the homer and lisa bond subplot cause it's one of those rare episodes where homer is good to lisa without being an asshole first.
>langdon alder
>Congrats Martin, you've just won one million dollars
>DING DING DING DIING
>Now you've all but gone and have $600 left, you got greedy Martin
ANDY WILLIAMS
Wow I said that line to myself last night as I was playing CoD and visualized martin on the exchange floor buying soy, but I didnt even remember it was from that episode til now.
watch My Winnipeg, its a great film
Pure Simpsons gold.
>bart, can we weigh the car at that weigh station?
>sure, i dont see why not.
SOY
SOY
SOY
SOY
But seriously, why isn't this episode in a lot of people's top 10s? It is pure comedy gold, on the same levels as Frank Grimes or You Only Move Twice. Is it just because season 8? There's absolutely nothing negative about it.
i visited the wigsphere once
Not enough meme potential, so people forget it
Literally every episode from season 2 was better
Did you knock it over?
Love how Nelson just tells his mother he's fucking off for a while or so because she doesn't care while the others stick to an elaborate alibi.
Whenever I'm on a highway and I turn my cruise control on, "I always say "Cruise control, my man" out loud.
Any episode where Nelson isn't just the ha-ha bully is great.
>frank grimes
>good
We spent our last 10 dollars on this talking Al Gore doll.
...
aren't both those episodes in season 8?
they are
Cruise control is for pussies
I really don't get Cred Forums obsession with the simpsons, its really not that funny and its not better than any of the other animated shows. I've been watching through the first 5 seasons now and its good (I am really enjoying it) but its no where near as good as you guys say. I see people bash family guy on here so i've been watching through the first couple seasons of that and there are a couple episodes of family guy that are 10x better then some of the simpsons episodes.
Can someone explain why people on here over love the simpsons, is it really nostalgic?
>couple episodes of family guy that are 10x better
Which ones?
this episode's on sky 1 right now
I feel like that about the legalised gambling episode.
I wonder if that's why OP made the thread or if it's meme magic.

Wow I google this to see if it was pasta and it isn't.

Just off the top of my head
Compared to episodes like Mr lisa goes to washington I would rather watch the ones I've listed
>its really not that funny and its not better than any of the other animated shows.
Here's the thing, it really is and it's the best show ever created. ~7 seasons of pure comedy gold and the best writing ever written for a television show. It's a shame you can't appreciate it, but then I wouldn't expect millennials to do that given they want something that's new and fresh, so they can feel they're part of a movement. That's why shitty game of thrones episodes get 10/10 on IMDB and something like A Star is Burns only has 8.5/10 despite being literally 100x better
Chilli episode is even better imo
Great posts to explain why you think the show is good when its not.
Nu-Simpsons CAN do good episodes, they just rarely bother or create them by accident when not particularly trying
You're too young to understand. You never will because you can't imagine a pre-internet world and what an impact the simpsons had on culture. There are millions of people who have based their entire sense of humor around the style of simpsons.
Humor is subjective so if you don't love it that's fine, but it's the characters that put The Simpsons head and shoulders over FG. FG is empty laughs, Simpsons clearly has thought and care put into the world they built and it makes a ton of difference
It's not a meme either, I've seen him post the same thing but say he was on season 3
Now they've switched to playing the DVDs instead. I really don't like the look of the BDs on classic Simpsons, everything looks too polished.
...
>you'll never be back in 2011 golden Cred Forums era where we'd have a Pointless and then c4 Simpsons thread

I said I like the show its people like you who act like its the greatest show ever. I can't even explain how much you post sounds like someone nostalgic over something getting offended that its not really that good.

It actually is honestly that good though.
what do you think is good, buddy? i expect a real response within 5 minutes.

IT STINKS

I know this is a Simpsons thread but do any other Brits really like The Critic too?
...
>nostalgia
it's not nostalgia though. Nostalgia is rewatching something from your childhood, appreciating the memories but realising deep down it's not as great as you thought it was. This has literally never happened with The Simpsons, in fact as I rewatch episodes the older i get I appreciate them more and realise there's so much I missed as a kid. That's how great the show is. It gets better the more times you watch it, some episodes I have seen 15+ times and can never get bored of it. It's that great a show and there isn't ANYTHING that comes close (maybe the first 4 seasons of Futurama)
I never said it was bad just that its not the greatest thing ever written but if you must have a list of show show I think are good.

Same thing here
I can remember watching them from like 5 to about 12 and then went on a hiatus because my parents and siblings always watched other things on the TV and I couldn't into piracy, but I found a site that has them all from S1E1 to the latest.
Even the little things like pic related I missed as a kid. I find I laugh at them MORE now than I did as a kid
...
this graph doesn't even begin to show how big the decline was though, and golden era episodes are rated far too low

I'd say Father Ted does. Only 3 seasons but every episode was good.
You said it best.
See I saw it later so I saw the later seasons, that was my first time seeing the show how does a show have 18 awful seasons but still considered one of the best shows?

Ted's actor died though, doesnt count because they never had a chance to go to shit

I would add that it's not just the adult jokes here, but the seasons and seasons of character development that they make use of. Just take Mother Simpson. It shows how much depth there is to Homer, name me a single other character who that ending could have been used on and made you feel the same way?
...
Trilogy of Error was actually decent. Easily the best thing to come out of that shitstain of a season.
Exactly and to me everyone on here says it the greatest show, so I go to watch an episode on tv and its fucking shit because its an episode from the later seasons. So the show overall is not good your argument is the best of the show is good and everything else is trash.
This, I rewatch the simpsons from time to time, and it's consistently great. It's shocking that some of the jokes can still make me laugh after ive seen the episode 10 times before
It's incredible

The normie vaporwave cancer have invaded the simpsons including this episode
it wasn't senpai, that's a reddit-tier theory
Simpsons has heart, family guy is just cynism. Simpsons jokes also stand the test of time better. Once you tire of Family guys random-humor the whole show instantly gets boring and it will never feel fresh again. I've probably laughed harder to some Family guy moments than anything in Simpsons, but its overall still a much more enjoyable now. Now that I'm an adult its not even comparable anymore - Family guy's jokes feel incredibly stale, and its art and animation is an eyesore.
Top tier episode.

Why does The Simpsons manage to produce so many images that can be posted on Cred Forums as reaction images or whatever, and why are they almost all from pre-S15?

Does it really bother people that much? I feel the only reason people bash the cut aways is because of south park. The have a couple an episode (some have none) and they are 10=15 seconds almost every time. So because of that you totally discredit the rest of the episode?

Ok so South park goes "hey whats going on in the news lets make a whole episode about that" is fine. Family guy goes "hey thats going on in the news lets make a little joke or reference to it when we do a scene change or something" Is the worst ever and the show is terrible?
>Squeaky-Voiced Teen next to Hank Azaria

The Frank Grimes episode is easily one of the worst Simpsons episodes.
why?
The internet disagrees
It's the moment the show redefined Homer from well meaning buffoon who ultimately does right by his family to an ass who fucks up everyone's lives then chuckles about it. It's a deconstruction of the show that fundamentally misunderstands it
can you give another example of your latter description of Homer?

This is an experience which has happened countless times, but which Family Guy will never be able to replicate. Although, the Simpsons one was still funny even though I didn't get it, while you need to understand what they're talking about on Family Guy or it's not funny at all.

Winnipeg is a frozen hellhole.
It's the latter, i.e. the generation of millennials who don't sit down and watch TV, so the only times they will encounter the show is if they decide to watch it on their internet streaming sites. It's quite sad actually
...
The thing about the simpsons is that they parody a lot of films, usually very subtly, and the movies that they do parody are often really worth watching

>millennials
Millennials are the people who grew up on the Simpsons you dolt.
The writers must have really liked this song. They reference it again when homer requests it on the radio
...
>Born 1981. Millenials claim I'm one of them.
No John, you are the millenial.
>Millennials (also known as the Millennial Generation[1] or Generation Y, abbreviated to Gen Y) are the demographic cohort between Generation X and Generation Z. There are no precise dates for when the generation starts and ends. Demographers and researchers typically use the early 1980s as starting birth years and use the mid-1990s to the early 2000s as final birth years for the Millennial Generation.

Your conception of what a millennial is is still wrong
...
those fuckin feels
You realise how stupid it is to ignore how a word is defined just so you can keep insulting your own age group on the internet right?
People born in the 80's and 90's are millennials, why does that offend you so much?
Wrong. Perfect example:
Yesterday my wife and I are out for dinner and a group of millenials are talking extremely loudly. At least two of them mentioned they were 19 years old, one emphasized "with the brain of a 13 year old." So there's your context.
At some point, they make a joke, a reference to "You call that a knife? THIS is a knife!"
Now this joke can stand on it's own via Crocodile Dundee. OR you can reference the Simpsons per this thread, i.e. "no it's not that's a spoon" etc. HOWEVER
They instead referenced "this is a knife... and this is another knife." And I was like "wait that's not how it goes..." and then they started talking about Family Guy.
Right there is the divide. If you grew up on The Simpsons, you are not a millenial. If you group up on Family Guy, you are the millenial.
Born in 1986 by the way.
someone start a new thread and backlink to this one
OH WHACKING DAY!

The group you're referring to has another name.
...
Anyone else just watch the country club episode on Sky not long ago.
>I knew my kind wasn't welcomed here
I don't know why this is so hard for people to grasp
19 year olds are barely millennials, millennials are currently aged 36-16 or 30-20 if you want to be less generous.
Or are you so fucking stupid you think people born in the 90's did not grow up with the Simspsons?
Because Cred Forums has a lot of stupid people who have decided millennials are bad which means they cannot possibly be one. So they keep changing the age range to whatever is necessary to exclude themselves. It would be like someone born in 48 who hated Boomers deciding that it only actually counts after 1950 or something.
Neither did I. I'm just goofing off, friend.
Family Guy is Gen Z
>call wanna be 90s kids millennials
>no you
everytime.
I'm a millennial born in '93 and grew up on The Simpsons.
Staying indoors after dark
Where did you get the notion that someone was offended, or that I was insulting people? You sure seem to notice a lot of things that simply aren't there. Why? Is it a projection thing?
I honestly didn't know that there were an official regulation for when Generation X ended and the Millenial Generation began and I certainly didn't believe it stretched as far back as 1981.
Actually, the information provided to me in this thread clearly spells out that it's ambigious and that there are no clear lines. 1981 is literally on the line between Generation X and Generation Y. So, sorry to tell you but you're the one who's wrong here buddy.
a-are there vampires in winnipeg?
