Didnt see anything that implied they were gay, people just have a hard time understanding the master/servant relationship and the fact that Tolkien was from a time where a homosexual relationship was pretty much unthinkable, much more likely was that two men loved and respected each other with nothing romantic or sexual involved.

Better put, but to clarify the point, Tolkien lived in a time where to even imply such a thing was unthinkable. Of course homosexuality was present and known and, yes, unmentionable, but that's precisely what made him able to tell this story without worrying about people's interpretation.
