I also got Akame ga Kill in mind. Ironically, Akame isn't even a main character in the main series (we got some kid instead) and is rarely the focus of the story. She's just out there doing stuff. But there's a spin-off manga, Zero, that is solely about her. The kid from the main series never appears as far as I know.
