Are you baiting or retarded? I can understand the average Joe not knowing, but this can't be your first thread discussing Gandalf's power level. In the books and implied but not outright stated in the movies Gandalf is said to be extremely powerful, but limits himself while on Earth so that he doesn't disrupt the natural course of events. That's paraphrasing, but understand that Gandalf is essentially immortal and an angelic being who is parading around in the body of an old man.

Not quite. Eru is the God of LoTR, akin to the Christian God, although without the trinity going on. Below him are the Valar, who are basically Demi-Gods, and akin to Arch Angels. They sort of follow the Indo-European conventions of being the patrons of given aspects of reality, or occupations. Below them are Maiar, which are basically just angels that serve individual Valar. Gandalf, Sauron, and Saruman are Maiar, and Sauron was the most powerful of the Maiar.

Also, they're both good guys, so they wouldn't be fighting. I never understand why people try to match up good guys in a fight. Fucking... try villain vs. villain, for once. Empire Vs. Borg, or Voldemort vs. Sauron.

Honestly I'd like to hear this one - Sauron is also a god, but he and Voldemort are both rendered vulnerable by their respective Horcruxes. It really is a matter of whether Voldemort could find Sauron's Ring (and whether Sauron HAD his Ring) before Sauron had his Orc armies or the Nine seek out Voldemort's Horcruxes and destroy them all.

And similarly, the questions arise as to whether the heroes exist in this scenario. Because just like a Trek vs. Wars scenario where the Federation would work with the Rebels to take down the Empire, Gandalf and Harry would try to work alongside one another to take out both their enemies.

That's the thing about heroes and villains. Villains want to be Top Dog, but heroes will cooperate if it's for a greater cause. Really, the only reason Harry's ever tried to work alone is because he didn't want anyone else hurt, or because nobody else would listen to him.

Voldy is probably on par with the witch king power wise. So even if he found saurons ring, he would just become a wrath in saurons service.
