Everything before the year 2000 is worth checking out, except maybe for The Color Purple which is alright but somewhat "oscarbaity", and although you'd think Schindler's list might fit that description too it's actually a fantastic film with a great performance from Neeson. Saving Private Ryan, Empire of the Sun, Indiana Jones, Close Encounters, ET, Jaws, Jurassic Park... even Hook is worth watching. After that it's hit or miss. Most of his post 2000 work feels perfunctory and uninspired.
