As a big MJ fan, you notice this a lot with his later releases. The songs just sound really, really dated for the era. By the late 90s you had Drum and Bass, Breaks, Trance, House and MJ's production still sounded like a mid 80s pop song along with sections in the songs that sound like Vanilla Ice or MC Hammer tier "rap" on Invincible.
