colbert was funny in the past because he was an unknown outside of people who watched the daily show. this allowed him to make leftist satire from "behind enemy lines" through his impersonation of bill oreilly and faux god-complex that most rightwing talkshow hosts have. this angle is far funnier than the usual leftist "humor" which is to point at something and say "arent they stupid?" or "isnt it crazy there are people this ignorant?"

he pulled some great stunts in his time like the time he was invited to the white house press conference and verbally bombed GWB into the ground. or the time he made bill oreilly sperg out on his own show because he completely missed the joke.

but now that hes big time, and everyone knows hes just kidding, he has to return to the old archetype of humor. its going to be a lot more point-at-this-and-say-its-ridiculous/jerry-seinfeld-type shit because he has lost his character, sadly.
