Theres a whole section in one of the books where they turn him down to half power because they need to conserve power and he becomes translucent, this drives him close to insanity because he can't close his eyes without seeing through his eyelids and it stops him sleeping, so i guess he must be capable of sleep canonically

it's kind of distracting, especially if you go back and watch old episodes where they're young and realize they're still wearing the same costumes but look tired with sagging rib cages and distended ears. i think they're doing two seasons back to back so they can stop right around the time they reach pensioner age
