Let me give you a quick guide in how criminal liability is established. You first need the corpus reus, which is the actual act. They establish it by making the pedophile go to the house to show attempted molestation (it's attempt if the illegal act fails because of circumstances independent of the culprit).

Then you need the mens rea, which means that the culprit had the conscious intention to molest, which is shown through the pedophile's intent to send explicit pictures to 12-year olds.
In this case it doesn't matter whether it's an actual 12-year old, because it only has to show intent to molest a minor.

tl;dr there is no entrapment, the pedophiles are 100% liable.

i did go through most cases and the absolute majority were convicted. some weren't, probably because they didn't send nudes or have graphic enough chats + decent lawyers.

Now, on defense of this kind of bating, I have to say that in the case of pedophilia you could make an exception to some extent; and that's because you want to catch the predator before he has commited the crime. There is no going back like in the case of the robber who returns the money. But the way they do it on HvP is just lazy, with a considerable chance to convict people who wouldn't have commited the crime otherwise.

The decoy does this at the meet up. The reason for this is that it makes for good TV. The crime has already been committed online. When the decoy is talking to the adult online, the adult approached the decoy and solicits sex, never the other way around. The decoy never leads the discussion.
