There's nothing wrong /per se/, but 1080p leaves 3MB for VERY little bitrate

You'd have a better image just limiting it to 720p and compensating for a higher bitrate, and then your own Browser/Media Player can upscale with the better bitrate.

This is why 1080p is a meme when its not 2.5x the size of a 720p release. 1080p has 2.5x the amount of pixels than 720p.

The more you know. I will provide an example here soon.

I will convert a section of a 1080p video (with nice bitrate, but not a remux), downscale to 720p, do a double encode pass with variable bitrate.

You'll see the quality.

1080p mkvs with multiple audio tracks and subtitles can make it spaz the fuck out.

Then you gotta either dump the mkv out in to an avi container with 1 video 1 audio stream, or do it oldschool style via ffmpeg.

Waddya use then? I've got both Webm4R and Xmedia - I tend to use the latter for other videos, and WebmR for quick Youtube conversions.

I've not had any problems tossing Youtube vids and WebmR, but yeah, it has trouble with some complex containers or legacy formats (mainly because the FFMPEG it relies on does as well).

Xmedia is a lot more powerful, but is a lot harder to use, doing a lot more than you need for this, and tossing limitless options at you (plus, no simple "under this size" option - gotta use the bitrate calculator).

I also hate that it's one of those that's set to output "by device" (and then lists a hundred devices), rather than simply letting me keep custom presets. ...But I do use it for just about anything other than Cred Forums webms.
