Man I was obsessed with this show as a teenager, wish I could go back. But after watching a ton of other sci-fi shows it's hard to really get into again knowing how derivative and generic it is. Well after watching the first three Star Trek shows, The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits, trying to rewatch SG1 can be a chore. It's like, every single fucking episode plot has been done before by another series, and the format itself is just a retooled Star Trek.

The lovable characters help, but if the SG1 writers had been a bit more ambitious instead of just borrowing from other shows that would've gone a long way toward making the series more rewatchable. It's still a comfy show and and it certainly isn't bad or anything, but there it is.

There's a shitty Stargate movie reboot coming in the near future (made by a guy who hates how SG-1 turned out), which will presumably be followed by a shitty Stargate TV show.

But otherwise I'd hope there's another show like it one day, SG-1 was maximum comfy and fun.
