Salo is the only film I've ever seen that had no redeemable qualities. It was a pornography of suffering, and I hated every minute of it. I don't believe in the censorship of art, but I can understand why this film was banned, without condoning such a thing. It's ugly, miserable, degrading, and nihilistic; it doesn't communicate or teach anything, it's an autistic solipsistic display of misanthropy, masked as a "historical lesson".
