So this further pushed his defenders into authoritarian mode and anti-free-speech
The people with legit problems with him became unable to voice their dissent without being accused of racism. This caused the free-speechers to move to the "right" (really, the center just shifted)

The libertarian movement, which used to be the alt-right movement (for reasons you'll see in a second) until some point in the last year where alt-right started referring to white supremacists, was basically centralist. But since Obama was the sitting incumbent, their candidate had to run for the republicans - Ron Paul. Hence, the alternative right
