Good cinematography is a big green screen and a talented CGI artist.

without having watched a single transformers-movie i feel like those movies are hated far more than they actually deserve, but good god this is awful.

the kino we deserve

Good cinematography fits a certain foreground and background model. Mark Cousins explains it in the first episode of the Story of Film. There's a certain classical style that works.

Something that contributes to visual language as a story/narrative device

pretty screencaps

no, in any case they're not hated enough, they still make a shitload of money.

>le orange and teal

it actually looks good, though. all recent bay movies have pristine cinematography and editing, too bad everything else is shit

Good cinematography is some simplistic derivative composition you like to pretend has some deep profound meaning and is a commentary on the human condition that transcends space and time but amounts to jr high school poetry in visual form.

Bane?

No, Savage.

If something is beautifully framed and also adds to the storytelling of a drama, it is bad cinematography.

If something would look cool as your computer wallpaper and is part of an EBIN SCI-FI MOVIE!!! it is EPIC CINEMATOGRAPHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

u mad white boii?

This Can't Be Our Hero- framing

the framing, the lighting, the colors combined with the context creates a metaphor for the struggle of the character is going through and foreshadows the challenges to come

Aesthetic with some purpose to the film.

high quality cinematography

uhh and where can I find this scene

looks like its ari graynor in for a good time call. reverse image search is your friend

I know all that but I can't find a video of the scene

...

Tell me about the guy around the other side!
Who was he looking out for?

>Theatrical

Get your shilling right DCuck

Nothing!
He's just a hothead trying to put out the fire by pissing on it.

...

When the visuals help tell the story and set the tone

>EBIN SCI-FI MOVIE!!! it is EPIC CINEMATOGRAPHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
overdoing it

I still think Tree of Life is one of Malick's weakest movies but the whole creation sequence is fantastic
youtube.com/watch?v=9EEIeH7ymwA

I've seen webms of this but don't know the movie, source please?

It's Mr. Turner and it is a fantastic movie

Mean while he posts a Deakins shit pile, whose work translates to roughly 'cinematography = nice, vanilla pictures' which is a fucking IMDBdrone sensibility.

in short, kys

>tfw the cave shot breaks my tv because it's so dark

>can't understand mise en scene

LINES

looks shitty 2bh

How about this

fantastically boring*

so good

>muh mise en scene

Perfectly shot film, very underrated.

You're insane. It's by far his best.

No that's To the Wonder or New World

I've been baneposting for years, and I've never noticed the man behind CIA before.

That's Knight of Cups

the first act of this movie is amazing
i kinda lost interest after they go to nam

if trash like marvel movies can be considered good then transformers can too.

off topic, but how the fuck does malick make a living? He releases films like a hundred years apart and few of them are particularly successful or even make their budget back
Does he have a side hustle or what, how is he not JUST-ed?

most contrarian post I have ever seen
not discarding your opinion, but care to elaborate it?

He operates one of the world's largest human trafficking rings

>feeding this obvious bait

UNATCO?

what a shitty collage. If the flick doesnt have retardely obvious and self indulging shots like , a 3x3 is better

Camera work and aesthetics that fits the mood and story

youtube.com/watch?v=h_nl-uSJUPo

is this good cinematography?

shut the fuck up you pretentious cretin.

don't know, it just didn't work for me

not bait

Truly only a master is capable of making moonlight going through tall windows and cgi moths look good

Kino

OIL

i guess you're an autist who sees a pretty picture in dc or refn movie, you considers it as mastepiece, despite the worthless sceenplay

lmao, shut the fuck up buttblasted marvel fan.

what is wrong with her fucking face?

bad picture, in motion she's 9/10

...

>that fire in the background beginning to rise
>at the beginning of the movie called 'the dark knight rises'
>Bane keeps talking about the fire rising
fuckin bravo nolan

>heat rises
>heat ledger died and rose into heaven
holy shit

>anne hathaway in a catsuit
>my dick rises
mind = blown

whoa...

I fucking hate the same shitty super vibrant orange blue color grading that Bay uses in fucking everything. It is actually hard to look at with all that contrast and bad palette.

more like load = blown amirite?

really makes you think

Ikr? The contrast in Michael Bay movies is fucking eye cancer. It's like something you could maybe barely deal with for three minutes in a shitty MTV video but a full 90 to 120 minute movie? jfc

I like it. It's like viagra for your eyes. The intense saturation of color increases blood flow to my penis when shit explodes.

This is actually pure cinema

If you can take a screencap at any point during the film, post it on Cred Forums, and it get's called kino - it's good cinematography

>Select all images with Jimmy Stewart

whats this movie about senpai?

what the heck does a cinematographer do?

Prove me wrong: protip you can't

it's an art film about life. Birth, growing up, getting old, death, and rebirth. That webm is a sequence in the movie of the dinosaurs going extinct.

webm very related

Any user is free to call me a faggot if I am wrong but think of a scene:
Few people in a room talking or whatever. Without the cinematographer, despite how awesome the dialog or the acting is, the scene will mostly look like your typical MOV1500928.mp4 video shot with your mobile in your classroom, with a unsteady but static camera with ugly lighting.
Cinematographer is responsible for the shooting technique movement, position, focus, zoom etc, lighting and I think also camera attributes.

post yfw one of your shots is worth more than most filmographies

visualized this flique for the 3rd time this year

Samefag, just a correction (or continuing what I already said wrong)
There are productions where there is no cinematographer, just the director taking care of/organizing those stuff. What I explained is cinematography, cinematographer is responsible for it.

literally ______: the shot

lol there needs to be a "rule" to make that shot. It's called common sense.

"masterpiece of western art"

Itt: people that think the dp does the directors job
Cinematography has nothing to do with framing

its so dense

lol

Mesa

the only good thing about this movie was aesthetics

> Shockwaves travelling thousands of times faster than the speed of sound

Why bother even attempting to adhere to scientific plausibility. All that matters is that you have a cool-looking "le epik exploshun" for popcorn-eating retards to laugh at.

wdhmbt?

...

>rule of thirds

ugh

>ugh
jeez
