Wow was it really? I watched shaun of the dead years ago but didn't think it was from there, I'll have to rewatch it soon

Yeah, it's part of a trilogy. If you liked SOTD, watch Hot Fuzz next.

Love Exposure?

Adrenaline Drive (1999) was fun,
Ran (1985),
Roshamon (1950) - I think I remember it being good,
Battle Royale (2000),
anything Miyazaki.
but what's wrong with giant monsters?

High and Low

There's nothing wrong with them, I've watched like a hundred of them already.

>Best Japanese film
That'll be easy, there's lots of-

>not involving Samurais or giant monsters
Ah go fuck yourself.

heh heh me too,
Oh I forgot the horror films:
The original Grudge and Dark Water (both 2002), Ringu (1998)

Thanks user. What's your favorite kaiju movie of all time?

Eh. Movie was alright but the best parts where the actresses. They were all qt.

I suppose I should say the original Godzilla ... but Destroy All Monsters is a classic too.
Honestly, the best are the Gamera Movies when done by Mystery Science Theater 3000.

If you exclude anime, Battle Royale is probably one of the best that kino that Japan has to offer, and its not even that good.

The ED song is pretty good though

Dragon Ash (ドラゴンアッシュ, Doragon Asshu)
Mob Squad is a great album by them

Grave of the Fireflies
Only Yesterday
Whisper of the Heart
The Wind Rises
Every movie by Yasujiro Ozu

I don't see any bears user.

The Bad Sleep Well

Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence
Dersu Uzala

Kairo, the Japanese original version of Pulse. It's a great horror movie that doesn't rely on anything but tension and spooky imagery, no screamers.

Doro no Kawa/Muddy River from 1981 about two street urchins in Osaka befriending one another and finding a family.

Vengeance Is Mine from 1979, following a murderer/thief as he tries to evade police.

Damn, and I thought Pulse was original. Will definitely check it out.

Oh wait, did you mean the 2001 version?

fuck, this looks amazing.

That's a stylish cover.

I hate that that's usually enough to get me to watch something.

Yeah, Kairo from 2001. It might be a little difficult finding a decent copy that's well seeded, I recall having to settle for a dvd quality copy but honestly it didn't detract. If anything it made an already miserable aesthetic even more miserable.

isnt that shit like 8 hours long? Is it really worth it because my library has the criterion version that I've considered renting. But 8 god damn hours is quite the commitment.

Ran and roshamon had samurais in it.
I've given several of Ozu's films a try and i really can't get on board with them. If I wanted to watch old asians have domestic disputes i'd go to chinatown. Why is this dude's films so highly praised?

...

A film that's so bad it's funny. You cannot defend this.

Someone pls help
