lookin' good tsar!

I remembered that you did nothing to exonerate yourself

slept on Alchemist Cookbook and I think I dig it more than I thought. Might give it another go soon and bump that rating up to 4.

letterboxd.com/white_water/

The brood was pretty freaky

The sets in Deep red are amazing. I love giallo in general because of the a e s t h e t i c. Too bad most of them have garbage tier story and characters.

letterboxd.com/FutureDays/

>cartoons higher than 1 star

Anyone seen Deepwater Horizon? What did you think? Might see it later today since nothing better seems to be on.

yeah giallos are an acquired taste for sure, took me a while to get into them, Italian horror in just in general too. I remember when I saw The Beyond when I was like 18 and I was so confused.

white_water=embryo

What's your fave overall?

Sergio Martino's All The Colors of The Dark. Tho I think some people would argue it's not a full on giallo but ehh it counts imo.

. In general I think Martino's giallos are the best. Love some Argento but even his best movies have large chunks that are boring as fuck. Fulci's A Lizard in a Woman’s Skin is pretty gr8 as well. ofc Blood and Black Lace,
The House with Laughing Windows is good. There's still a bunch I haven't seen.

Sounds good, will keep an eye out.

the score of All The Colors of the Dark is so good

I want to devour synt penor

>tfw

FW Murnau is such a prankster I can't believe he has tricked me into watching two films now that aren't spooky horrors.

On the plus side the one seeder on night of the living dead is connectable and fast when I assumed it wouldn't download so I'll probably watch that tomorrow for zombie week, also Burial Ground, and maybe Hell of the living dead

soon I hope it's the best movie of the year I hope lots of people get to see it

I definitely need to rewatch the early Fulci's I watched and hated at some point, see if my opinion on them has changed (New York ripper and city of the living dead)

I'm really mad because the blu-ray for this isn't online. The one rip that I found on one of my secret German cult movie forums got rid of the Italian audio and just kept German so can't even just add subs to that

>he hasn't seen Night of the Living Dead already

yeah some of those movies are really hard to find. I want to get the 105 minute cut of Deep Red but I can't find any torrents of it so I'll most likely just end up buying the Blue Underground br which has both cuts when I get paid

No I haven't. I also haven't seen titanic or the godfather 2 or the show shank redemption or gladiator

good frog picture by the way

macdoofus54

It's a good one but my favourite frog is pic-related

Night of the Living Dead is in public domain, it's literally on youtube mate

For stat-padding only. Quality-wise, it doesn't look minimally interesting. Maybe historical value, but that's questionable.

I think you might be right, would be nice for there to be some fantastic nearly forgotten things in there but looking at reviews it seems it's mostly notable for being 'educational'

>It's About Time: The Cinema of Lav Diaz
MUBI is proud to present the first-ever online retrospective of renowned Filipino auteur Lav Diaz, winner of Locarno’s Golden Leopard, and the Venice Orizzonti and Berlinale’s Alfred Bauer awards. His sprawling sagas of the Philippines’ tumultuous recent history and beleaguered but strong-willed and passionate peoples are epic in scope but bracingly intimate and direct in style. Challenging notions of storytelling and how cinema gives images and sound to stories unseen and voices unheard, no one makes movies like him. To give audiences the proper time to spend immersed in Lav’s cinema, MUBI will debut one film each month during the retrospective.

Been watching a lot of horror movies this month, and it's been a great time. Definitely being reminded as to why it's my favorite genre.

About to watch The Shining for the first time today. It'll be my 4th Kubrick film.

I have, though it's been a while. It's pretty similar all in all. But I prefer the original due to 70s vibe and more menacing bad guys.

why are you guys using this website in particular? I've used a couple of these sites and what makes this one your choice?

Nice layout primarily. But I haven't used any other sites with the same 'diary' functionality so maybe there are better ones

yeah the diary part is nice, so is the option to watch the movies online (if you live in the US at least).

>Using a 2.5 = average scale

nothing wrong with using 2.5 as average, it's just that average nowadays means pretty bad

only to people who dont use that scale.

Are you illiterate? Average means average and pretty bad means pretty bad.

youtube.com/watch?v=hQo1HIcSVtg&feature=youtu.be

you didn't even understand what I meant, but hey, calling people on the internet illiterate is free

Average can mean pretty bad if you're not into average films.

>he's saying mean words on the internet, how unelegant

Average means the general middlegroud which for movies is absolute shit and I would never reccomend someone watch an 'average' movie so there isn't any point dedicating half your scale for garbage

letterboxd.com/Shao_liu_ringon/
As much as I like Burt Lancaster, the 60s remake of the killers is the better film, largely due to the shift in perspective and Lee Marvin, I wish they still made action/crime films as stylish and manly as they did decades ago. I also loved the femme fatale in this.

Whistle and I'll come for you, contact and under the shadow are good examples of just how a ghost movie should be done.
I'm starting to see why some people preferred under the shadow to the babadook, under the shadow has the brief social commentary, its got a better backdrop, its more low key and above all the acting is much better and because of that I actually cared more about the mother and daughter, the kid in this film was leagues ahead of that rubbish child actor in the babadook.

Someone mentioned Fulci in this thread?
I can't seem to get into him in the same way as Sorvino, Argento, Bava and Soavi. Lizard woman and duckling are great, cat in the brain is hilarious, beyond is good but I couldn't get through new york ripper, city of the living dead is only okay and house by the cemetary is really more of a so bad its good film.
I am considering trying zombi though.

>...the general middlegroud which for movies is absolute shit
false
> I would never reccomend someone watch an 'average' movie
it really depends on some factors

>average means absolute shit

>false
yeah man I love all these quirky comedy action films
Well I've watched 7 hours of it
Average is a mean of all scores on all films which IS SHIT

>I would never reccomend someone watch an 'average' movie so there isn't any point dedicating half your scale for garbage

ehh, as long it's accurate.

and i would recommend low rated movies if they have an interesting concept or whatever. low rated movies can still have some worth even if they are bad overall.

for giving "blind" recommendations im only realy comfortable with my 8 and above ratings

The average of scores on all films is not 'SHIT'. That's a stupid assumption made out of pure bias of >i hate hollywood sentiment.

>It takes an autistic person to actually try talking about movies on Cred Forums
Sad. What's Baltzar Militarismus like?

Who are you?

:-P

Everywhere makes more bad movies than good movies

More mediocre movies than bad movies. (And most of these statements are always meaning american cinema, obviously and naturally.) But on whatever whole, the average score for all films would probably show a tendency to mediocrity, something on the range of 4 to 5.5.

I wish you pain

letterboxd.com/Smoothhands/
step to me, I dare you

Nah, there's definitely more bad movies.

The whole argument is pointless since 2.5 represents mixed/mediocre, not "average", a meaning which would have changed several times since the Buster Keaton invented movies in 1920.

>AoD better than ED2
You have brain problems.

Given a minimal amount of money and talent, the tendency is to make something mediocre not bad. It's a sensible expectation. The average of movies ever made is bound to be on that referred range.
Only if you were a memer rater hating and loving like crazy it would go down or up too much.

your opinions are the exact same as mine. He is very hit and miss, but the hits are wonderful. Zombi is top tier if not his best, id check that out as a priority

who the heck is sorvino

Wow, Peleshian! Soo patrician!

>duckling are great

I've been meaning to watch this for so long but can't find subtitles for my downloaded torrent.

Also Babadook was shite. Anyone who recommends that for a horror film is a fool

smoothhands could potentially be someone not cancerous, why does he choose to be such cancer then? Kinda new here, maybe there's a backstory

>Babadook was shite
How did it trigger you? Do you want it rec'd as what, romcom?

Damn, looks like I was mis-remembering for some reason I had it in my head that the surname of what have they done to solange's director was Sorvino, the directors surname is actually Dallamano, somehow I also thought solanges director also directed laughing windows but that was Pupi Avati.
I'll check out zombi, although I hope I can find it in the Italian version.

Thanks!

Kyanq is at least a five

Is your duckling a HD rip? I can up the subtitles that sync if so

Dallamano is great. I'm super excited for What have they done to your daughters which will hopefully he coming online any day now. Haven't seen the Pupi Avati giallo, only regalo di natale which was OK but been meaning to check out more of his stuff (will probably watch Zeder when some of the HD releases come out)

He hardened up thanks to years of abuse from lbg. A true inspirational story of an embryo growing up to be a fully capable patrician.

>Do you want it rec'd as what, romcom?
>going this extreme to the other side

nah it's more like a depressing as fuck drama first, with some scary elements

keep telling yourself that lw

>less than 2000 films
>patrician

That's Dangerous Days btw, not Blade runner. Gonna see The Fugitive next and maybe The Conversation after that.

I started Magnificent Seven 1960 thinking I'd go out to see the new one but then I changed my mind. Will probably finish that later

/blog

letterboxd.com/tachikoma/

I used that as a cute ad absurdum. I wholly agree btw, it's a drama first, but selling it up to its horror elements helps attention and bucks. The film itself shouldn't be blamed, yet it seems this is the reason for so many people here hating it. But that's the nature of most 'horror buffs'.

I can think of 2667 reasons why I'm right

Forgive me

i didnt like it because it was a bad movie. the fact that it wasnt much of a horror is just added anoyance

here, congrats on the try

but Marker is New Wave, embryo

t. that ugly feminist's orbiter

post your profile i want to screenshot this

And it keeps getting worse. Even last year it wasn't THIS awful. But the sjwism and pandering to retards and circlekerking only grows

ive said this before but letterboxd needs a recommend/insightful button along with the like button.

that way "reviews" such as that one can be liked and shared still, but only reviews with lots of recommendation clicks get pushed to the top spots

would weed out so much shit

>circlekerking

?? I've recently found good copies of most of these. Shudder has Deep Red now if you want to do a free trial.

I watched the religious shorts and the doc zora neale hurston made on tcm and they were good. I think most of the boxset is going to be on filmstruck.

Hmm not sure if that will be sourced from the blu, sounds like a trash rip anyway

and yeah almost all Italian horror is dubbed, it meant they were cheaper to produce and could also make dubs in other languages for different markets easier.

I'd say it's like 1/4 people you could even maybe call that and then the rest are boring to unhinged guys. As with most review sites.

oh its not definetely blu ray quality no. best quality i could find of it tho

is it worth watching rohmer more or less in order or should I skip around to the ones that stand out? I'm up to the last of his comedies and proverbs series (rip Pascale Ogier and the male lead in the aviator's wife who also died young not long after his movie)...skipped marquis d'o but perceval was really good and is underrated.

you can order the lists (by year, length, rating etc) and it shows you the percentage of movies you've watched on a list or by a director, basically it's the video games stats version while mubi is the functionally not very good or useful but beautiful looking alternative (with better list makers and users, imo)

lmao, jesus fugg /lbg/
