So, I'm part of the marketing for the new John Wick movie and I'm looking for a cool / hip / badass song for the first theatrical trailer. The teaser debuted today.
I'm having some trouble finding the right song for the trailer. Not sure about the teaser direction - it sort of works, but that tone / musical style won't work for the full trailer.
Gimme some cool song suggestions! Something you'd like to hear in the John Wick 2 trailer.
Gotta say - this is fucking awesome, but would feel out a place in a trailer for a film that takes place in NY and Rome. But this song is going into something. Thanks for this.
I mentioned this in the last thread - that marilyn manson tune that would play for every other scene in the original already works pretty well as a franchise theme song. It just needs a more dramatic rendition in the sequel's trailer for hype purposes youtube.com/watch?v=34jC1fmeFD0

I'LL KEEP COMING
Asher Nelson
Man, I fucking wish we could use it. We were with Manson a few weeks ago and he was plugging that song for the JW2 trailer, but the studio has heard it to death and will inevitably say "we want something new!"
This would cause some positivity in Cred Forums (One of the biggest board on Cred Forums) and on Reddit. They love having 2 of their favorite things togheter. See The Passengers
The reason I don't recommend something from M|O|O|N form HM1 because those are literally one with HM. This on the other hand feels like could applied to a lot of movie like Neon Demon, Driver or in this case, John Wick
Jose Richardson
all of Cred Forums and the internet agrees this song is badass
A little too happy. I dig the track, though. I can totally see this in an action-comedy film. Something maybe with Kingsman-style violence or something.
That was up for consideration, but we felt the same way - it was used so much people would disregard the trailer. It'd have a "generic" feel. Same with 7 Nation Army.

>implying a trailer editor can just ask what random song to use and wouldnt be told what to use by a lawyer based on what they can afford the rights to
Logan Martin
Nope. Doesn't work like that, actually. The studio just buys the rights for the song to use for that specific campaign. It's expensive af, but we're talking about studios that rake in millions upon millions. A couple hundred grand for a song is nothing.
Jordan Cook
Don't 404!
Charles Gonzalez
can someone screen this thread, and post again when the trailer comes up so we see if he indeed used a song from this post?
Grayson Martin
So far none of these work. Which is a bummer.
Levi Morales
I'm signing off for now. These songs might show up in other campaigns, but this one has been a really tough nut to crack. This thread provided some direction, but so far no cigar. Which is not a big deal. This is a difficult thing - music makes a trailer.
You missed the boat long ago for a trailer song. You could never get the licensensing in order in such a short time, or edit a good enough trailer in such little time >thinking all of Cred Forums is clueless about how the industry works >thank god I'm here
alternatively, just ask whoever came up wit kaleida - think for the club scene because that guy is a genius
Nathaniel Baker
This isnt how trailer songs get chosen. In the film/advertising industry you'd just get passive aggressive emails in outlook if you wanted to pick p much any of these.
Brandon Campbell
Destinations or Hate or Glory would fit perfectly
Gavin Green
This is the only choice. It will help you get mileage from the cinematography and lighting in the film, as well as allow for a possible trailer with very little dialogue/excess sound.
Literally anything by Rage Against the Machine. "Killing in the Name" comes to mind.
Or slow it way down. "21 Guns" for drama, or Backstreet Boys because they're back, alright?

Studios don't want some cool obscure song, they want a new(ish) song they can also sell. It's called synergy.
There is clearly only once choice, as it also adds to the target audience of the movie.
John Wick - Migos, maybe for a 30 second spot Or maybe some Highly Suspect. The hook for My Name is Human is pretty decent. 23 and bloodfeather are decent candidates as well. I know hip hop doesn't really blend well with John Wick
Wyatt Sanchez
good shit
Wyatt Nguyen
>the best song from HM2 >not Roller Mobster You're wrong.
I know it's late in the thread, but this song would be really great matched to slowly panning out close up of Keanu getting a suit, intercut with muted action. Then slowly pulling out from that close up, then the guns slide into shot from all sides of the frame. youtube.com/watch?v=KnrGMHhnqrw
youtube.com/watch?v=kystWImMwM4 John Wick already works with Hotline Miami soundtrack as is. Generally Perbulator or Carpenter Brut will suit it perfectly.
Joshua Sullivan
This wont happen but man. Itd be insane if it could
I thought the music in the teaser trailer was disappointing. It was pretty generic and I think John Wick is a little 2cool for that kind of music.
Loved the music from John Wick 1 trailers, really got you pumped as hell. I don't really know what song would be good. But I think it has to fit the stylish vibe of John Wick. He's more Hellboy than John Mcclane, he has this "lager than life" aspect to him.
Bentley Walker
i dont play games senpai
this song is nice though
Carson James
Cred Forums better than Cred Forums. God job guys.
I like juxtaposition, combined with the millenials going crazy for the sound of silence at the moment, I think this song and it's recognisable chorus could be interesting
Jack Allen
Marilyn Manson - Deep Six
Michael Baker
Nutshack theme.
Aaron Hughes
Just do whatever the others are doing, either put some hip hop Kanye West shit or a song from The Heavy and you're done.
Also, I hope the trailer lied and we won't get Wick standing few feet away from people who don't shoot him.
Jacob Campbell
... this doesnt fit at all, the fuck, this is like some Louisiana bayou folk shit
Andrew Robinson
>not sexualizer
Lucas Perry
too upbeat and happy imo.
Connor Lewis
I mean what is John Wick 2 about? Where is it set and what is the theme of the movie?
Um, you anons can stop posting now. We decided to use Baal's Back.
Thanks again for the help!
John Watson
Seeing as there's some familiar faces in this movie, and this particular song is badass as it is, I think it would make a GREAT trailer song if the trailer fits it well enough. Hype this shit up!
that's a terrible choice mate, consider the following: "Degrade" by 3Teeth. the song would fit perfectly for John Wicks tough as nails aesthetic here's the song, just listen to it if you have the time, shit would be cash on the new trailer: youtu.be/GokSFbDGrKg
