Okay, I have spent more time than I would like to admit researching and thinking about this show and have come to a few conclusions.
1) Narrative loops: As far as I can tell, Westworld runs for 28 days at a time before having a short maintenance break (based on the fake terms and conditions on the website). Within those 28 days there are multiple story threads that are constantly running. If a story comes to its conclusion, it resets. Some stories are shorter (like Dolores who seems to die every day) while others last for much longer (like the saloon heist which was brought forward by a week, indicating that it plays out on an even loner time scale).
2: Guns. The guns have two types of ammunition. They will regular bullets at hosts and non-living things. At humans, they fire futuristic munitions that appear to disintegrate on contact. They also have the extra safety feature of not firing if aimed at a human's head. This programming also seems to be applied to the hosts themselves. This is why Teddy was unable to shoot at the man in black despite having a gun pressed against his head but immediately started firing again once the MiB was a safe distance away.
3) The hosts are designed to sub-consciously look after the guests, regardless of the role within the story. They will stop the guests from jumping off cliffs or doing any other stupid shit. They also seem to follow commands, within character. This is why several of the guests were able to commandeer Teddy as a 'guide' even though that seems out of character for him. Presumably the guests can also seduce any character they want with the hosts always submitting. The exception to this is if the host perceives it as a rape attempt, during which they will play along to fulfil the guest's rape fantasy.

Ed Harris is a robot, who's developed consciousness during the "incident" 30 years ago and amidst the havoc has managed to slip through the cracks, unnoticed by management. He's somehow tricked management and the westworld system into thinking he's a human and has visited the real world.

Personally, I don't think so. It's cheap writing. You make everything up to keep people hooked. There's no way of discerning what's going to happen and that gives people the impression of intrigue.
