Things Americans do cont

ITT: We ask americans about habits/situations in movies and find out if it's true or not.
This is a continued discussion from the previous thread: I'm the dutch guy from the other thread and I think I have an interesting question for the Americans: Do you guys really see our mostly liberal/leftist governments as basically commies? I've read and seen examples of this time and time again.

*hamburger music starts playing*

Most of us, myself included, have a very vague idea of what the hell communism actually is, and we just kind of blanket statement call the left commies.

I grew up with a father who worked for the government during the cold war since like the 60's so I've been using "commie" as an insult before I had the slightest idea what it meant.

Bigger is always better, so bigger tv = more betterer.

Dumb assholes on both sides come up with buzzwords and deliberately misinterpret the others opinions to make themselves seems smarter. So when conservatives hear that things are better in Europe with regards to one thing, and someone suggests that maybe we should give it a shot they go full red scare instead of thinking about it because they hate any change

You have the privilege of having those government because your countries will not be attacked or otherwise coup-ed up by the USA. Left governments anywhere else and look out.. Look at what just happened to Brazil, Argentina, etc..

And yes, to answer you.. Americans are mostly politically illiterate. They have no idea what those words even mean.

>do we all see leftist governments the same way

No we don't, but our liberals tend to be a bit more tolerant and inquisitve (also, again, not 100%, merely "tend to be"), while the more conservative, less-progressive parts of our country will think of negative terms for anything they see as a threat to doing shit the way they've always done it. E.g. progress is "communism," anti-racism is "SJW" etc etc

I really enjoyed the last thread, but you started this with a very politically motivated question, so this thread may already be doomed from the getgo.

If you see someone on Cred Forums calling you commies it's usually just a meme. Average Americans don't think highly of socialism though. Even things like public transportation and trigger some older americans.

Funny thing about that is...

During WW2 there were signs all over the US about Uncle Sam and Uncle Joe (Stalin) fighting the Nazis together. Look it up.

Then boom, straight to red scare. Then boom.. the next "war on this" war on that. War on poverty, war on drugs, terror, you name it.. Everything is framed as a war in the US.

Thanks. I always thought it had something to do with history such as Mccarthyism and the red scare. I always laugh when my government gets called a bunch of commies since we don't have a very healthy relationship with Russia as well.

Except for Vietnam. We call that an armed conflict.

So ask other questions then? I just wanted an interesting question up before everyone left the previous thread.

Lol.

Also some Americans will call you a socialist just for wanting public transportation and bike lanes and cities built in ways that don't encourage everyone owning a car.

In reality I just hate driving and commuting and the stress that comes with owning a car.

You dirty tree hugging, nigger lover, commie.

>mfw Cred Forums is a better Cred Forums than pol and better Cred Forums than int

Come on guys. Ask some questions.
I'm bored over here.

I'm not a regular around here, but I've been around past week or so for lack of work and whatnot.. I'm just shocked the mods haven't nuked the threads.

reeeee

Alright: How populare would you say the presidential debates are amongst young adults like yourself (probably)? We see it as a national shit flinging competion without adressing actual political standpoints.

They realized it was the only thread that was worth a damn on this shit board.

Indeed. But that goes back to the reply above, "anything that's not the status quo = bad."

We used to have public transport back before World War II, and then the car companies bought it all up and shut it down. So "muh tradition" is just a lie, in that instance, but that's how you can spot ignorance. "It didn't happen during my lifetime, therefore it doesn't exist."

do americans really clap inside theatres?

I mean do they think the actors and directors can hear them and are actually performing?

What do you think about how Phelps was thrown into the shitter over 1 bong pic, but this asshole Lochte is being glorified and given reality TV deals for being a real asshole? Why the big media in the US so backwards like that?

Why are you guys on our nuts so much?
I rarely ever wonder about other countries and what they're doing
>hurrr it's just innocent curiosity!!
No it's obnoxious obsession

Are you retarded? You're on Cred Forums for fuck sake man. Almost all western popular media comes from the states. I basically see it as one giant anthropology lesson. That's why we want to know so much about America.

Nobody actually takes it seriously. You are either use it as ammunition your least favorite candidate or you make the generic statement that "they're both dumb america is fucked xD"

Nobody is going to say this isn't our dumbest election cycle though.

I'm 30. Is that young?
Anyway like most political things it stops being about politics for young people and more of an opportunity for young people to make shitty memes about what candidate they hate the least.

I'd say that's pretty young yeah. Seeing those debates always makes me think it's so black and white all the time. Like a political system based on extremes.

>backwards

There is a percentage of people who genuinely think "making money = morality." So if it gets page views, it's doing good for society.

These people are, of course, hysterically fucktarded, and we're making progress, but it's slow-going.

This has got to be the shittiest meme to ever come out of Cred Forums.
No we don't clap.

From what I have seen... Two words: Media Circus.

The media has it's biases, but one thing all corporate media is biased in favor of is profits. This is why Trump is so popular. The MSM loves Trump. Even the ones who love to hate him, secretly love him.

The politically literate know the debates don't mean shit. For everyone else, it's just mere entertainment.

No I understand that and I don't have a problem with asking questions about differing cultures but many of these are dumb as shit questions purposely to antagonize.

I'd say these threads are way more Cred Forums than Cred Forums but they do have, or prior to this election season would have ask an American anything threads.

Cred Forums mods are schizos at best. They will hit the really illegal stuff quick, but it often feels like they aren't even around most of the time. Then at other times they will go into threads that clearly shouldn't exist here, and delete individual posts, and leave the thread up.

This cycle has been attracting way more youth than I have ever seen. Unfortunately this has also been the most circus like cycle I've ever seen as well, and it has always been ridiculous.

It's died down quite a bit, but some people still do it. I have one friend who used to do it, and I'd slap him upside the head every time. Like a dog, he may not know why he's not allowed to clap, but he knows he isn't now.

That's the glory of Cred Forums son. There hasn't been moderation in years

>We see it as a national shit flinging competition without addressing actual political standpoints.
Pretty much this. Most politically minded people watch just in case someone does something incredibly stupid like "Not paying taxes makes me smart but we need to make other people pay taxes" but no one expects any major policy revelations

Sometimes if you go to a movie as a social thing and just want to treat it as a viewing party, that's why midnight showings are popular because everyone gets drunk and loud and makes fun of the movie in a giant group

Reality TV knows you hate him, but weed is highly controversial and still technically a felony so advocating a felony is legally a bad idea

Nobody cared about the Phelps bong thing. Most people joked that weed couldn't be that bad if the most medaled Olympian of all time was doing it.

Ryan Lochte was a joke before the event and everyone thought he was a moron but if it comes down to a retarded one of our own against some sketchy Brazilian cops, we'll defend our own.

It's called shitposting friend. Gotta take the good with the bad i suppose.

Not usually, but in certain films, it can happen.

Honestly if you go with like 3 other people and you all start clapping at the end of the movie, the rest of the theater will follow suit.

Why don't you guys use bidets? If you smear shit on you arm, do you clean it only with paper and call it a day? No, you use water too.

>inb4 using a bidet is the same as cleaning your asshole India-style
No. First you wipe your ass with paper or paper soaked with a bit of water and then you use the vertical jet of the bidet to wipe completely. You never touch your ass with your hands.

USAmerican talking about sketchy cops. That's cute. The incessant propaganda about Brazil in the US media was just hilarious and disgusting. Not nearly as bad as the stuff about Russia 2 years prior though. One thing about the US vs other countries, is the masses in the US actually believe all this bullshit propaganda without question. People in China, for example, laugh at their countries propaganda BS.

Nobody cared? Are you kidding me? Phelps lost deal after deal. His sponsored dropped him. He lost tons of money. No one wanted to touch him. Over 1 pic with a bong.

This Lochte guy is a stereotypical "ugly American" and the media is glorifying him. He will probably never have to compete again because the media will turn him into a cultural appendage, if he's game.

>Why don't you guys use bidets?
Because that's french, and gay. I honestly love them, and am thinking about installing one after the guy in the last thread was talking about it. But for real, shooting water up your butt is half a step away from taking it up the ass, so only gays, and Europeans (who are all gay by the way) use them.

What is a real spring break like in America. Is it really one huge student binge drinking party throughout the nation?

Sponsors drop you for anything. The public opinion didn't care and Phelps already has loads of new sponsors that were celebrating when his old ones foolishly dropped him.

I don't give a fuck about your half baked political opinions. Stop spreading childish vitriol in what was an otherwise pleasant thread(s).

For a lot of people, yes. There are loads of beach towns that survive solely off of Summer Vacation. They make so much during that brief period of time each year that they really don't need anything else to keep the town's economy afloat.

It doesn't actually go up your ass... Unless you want it to.

It's cleaner and greener.. and saves money on toilet paper, because while you still use TP, you use much less of it. Most people have no idea how bad TP is for the environment, if you care about that kind of thing.

Only in designated areas. Vacation spots specifically. That and many uni's have spring break on different weeks so things aren't perfectly lined up and chaotic.

No, it's only a few cities and only the rich white kids who can afford to spend a week in Mexico going crazy. Most do go to Mexico though.

The water doesn't go inside your rectum like an enema (or a dick), the jet is not that strong.

Install one, they are awesome.

I was just being silly. As I mentioned in my spoiler, I've used them before, and am thinking about installing one now that I know it's not some major bathroom restructuring.

You can't just shew away the part of US culture you don't like. I can see you don't agree with it, but you don't have an answer to really justify the mass media either.

Phelps is the greatest champion of all time. Everybody loves that guy. Even people who don't like the US. And pot? A harmless plant?

Because they cost a lot of money here and no one but the owner knows how to use them

Different schools have different weeks off. Most college kids work but about 10% plan a trip to some shitty beach or resort and drink heavily like you see on tv. Honestly it gets gross and if you're there you alternate between violently drunk and wondering why the hell you're there and when you can leave. Also it's pretty much exclusively rich kids with business majors that don't have to worry about money or studying

When did I shew away culture I didn't like and when did I try to justify the media?

Seriously just stop posting. Maybe it's because of the election but I've seen a huge influx of edgy teenagers recently who think they're being poignant by expressing the most banal and trite anti-American sentiments that you hear from every kid who just encountered his first piece of counter-cultural media.

All right, let's go for something more trivial.
Do Americans really take a shower EVERY SINGLE MORNING?

I take a shower weekly but I'm a NEET.

I always take a shower any time I have to leave the house though.

Yes. It's pretty much expected of most people, and a lot of people even take multiple showers a day even when they have done nothing dirty enough to warrant a second shower.

>not showering after you exercise

Twice a day nigga. I sweat in my sleep and and work manual labor during the day

Not necessarily every morning.. but every day. Yes. 100%. Average Americans shower EVERY SINGLE DAY. and look at you like you're a freak if and when you tell them that this is insane.

It's a valid question. What kind of culture throws away it's greatest champion, someone who everyone likes, and then flock to guy a who is a walking stereotype of both a jock douche and "the ugly American."

Yes, no, of course that's fine if you do intense phisical work on a daily basis.
It seems weird if you just have a office job or are a student. Also, it's weird doing it in the morning when you basically wake up from doing nothing

You might not realize it, but you usually sweat at night while you sleep.

It's not a valid question. Oversensitive sponsors that will do anything to avoid controversy and 'boycotts' aren't the culture just like executives desperate to sell millennial targeted adspace aren't the culture.

>What kind of culture throws away it's greatest champion
Not him, but Sponsors are fickle as shit. The people never stopped loving him, and I believe he may have actually grown in popularity after the controversy, but his sponsors dropped him as if he were a pedophile rapist. To say that they like to play things ultra safe is an understatement. I'm pretty sure a bunch of pro-weed organizations scooped him right up though, and I may very well be wrong, but I want to say it was Wheaties stayed by his side through it all.

As for that other guy, I still don't know what the fuck his story was, so I can't comment on that.

I shower weekly since I'm practically a NEET (taking online classes at the moment) but if I'm going out somewhere then I'll shower. I'll feel really self-conscious if I don't.

What do you Americans think of Formula 1?

and do people really watch NASCAR just for crashes?

I've enjoyed formula 1 the few times I've watched it. I don't watch NASCAR but it seems more like a cultural event for southerners than anything else.

No one really cares about formula 1. We all understand that it's harder but no one cares

Nobody watches nascar on tv. We can just watch the crashes on the internet. They're only still going because they can sell tickets to the races. People that like nascar like it as a novelty in the same way people watch antiques roadshow

You sure it was Formula 1 and not indy car racing? Most Americans I've spoken to can't tell the difference and get them mixed up. Huge difference.

I have never been a fan of racing of any type, but I think Rally racing is the most interesting, and I can respect formula 1 despite not caring for it. NASCAR though I just do not understand. My dad watched that shit, and I know people who love it, but I just don't fucking get it. The crashes are cool I guess, but I'd rather just watch a highlight reel of it than stare at a bunch cars just going in an oval.

I did see the Earnhardt crash live, and even commented as to how lame the crash was. When they announced that it was fatal I couldn't understand how such a shitty wreck could kill someone.

No it was formula 1 lol. I don't remember the name of the event but Lewis Hamilton won.

I know people who watch NASCAR on tv. They don't watch it for the crashes, in fact they hate crashes, because it means their favorite driver could get killed. These people I speak of also have the mentality of five year olds.

Here, and I couldn't tell you the difference between the two if my life depended on it.

Nascar is actually pretty cool once you actually learn about it. Aside from all the white trash of course. It's some kind of art driving those big heavy primitive car round and round so close at such high speed. It makes zero fucking sense what so ever, but it's pretty cool to think about.

Thanks for the backup.

Question for the Euros: How do your traffic laws work on an international level? Like, if someone crimes in for example in France, and the police are chasing him down the (followup question, what do you call your equivalent of the Interstate?) road and he crosses into Germany? Can the French just keep chasing? Is there significant work together in international policing? How has all this been changed since the introduction of the EU?

Amerifat here, but I do recall the case of the Japanese cannibal who ate a guy in France and then was unable to be prosecuted in Japan because the governments were unwilling to share info with each other.

Euro here. Honestly I don't know for sure but I assume they are allowed to chase criminals across the border seeing as we have the Schengen treaty in the EU. Plus most neighboring countries have their police forces working together for examples like the one you gave.
