I don't think it's a flashback so much as a recurrence *with a difference*, which would reflect the cyclical nature of the world on a grand scale as it is in it's 'diurnal' rhythm. The show is drawing all kinds of parallels between the human characters and their androids, to show that they are not so alien to each other as we'd like to think; that humans, too, have their own 'algorithms' that they run through, developed through organic 'programming', and that large social movements and incidences tend to repeat themselves when the conditions are right.

What I wanna know is what the fuck is going on outside. It's heavily implied that the control center is deep inside the earth. We've seen a few very quick shots of something that looks like it might be outside, but could also be some kind of simulation. We also never see any natural light in the command center.

And it also makes me wonder about the nature of Westworld itself. Will walks down a hall and enters an already moving train. Is it a simulation? If so, why make hosts? If not, where is it? What's to stop people from sneaking in or hosts from leaving? Why are we never shown outside in the "real" world?

Also, I was under the impression that Will's whole story was in the past was a foregone conclusion. Doesn't the whole thing start with an older version of Main Character girl as a hostess on the train into the control center?

the illusions of not knowing who's who is the (flawed) security, but we can probably guess that guests are entered into the park (after what one can only imagine is extensive background and psych screening) a few at a time mixed in with robot interlopers and herded away from each other. they probabyy put people on trains in order like maybe a guy who just wants to fuck goes to saloon and maybe a guy who just wants to live out his cowboy fantasy gets herded away to the shootout part of the park. most of these intricacies will probably be hand waved for the sake of it being a tv show though.

The way all of this pans out seems like your very typical character-arc, with Will being nice and polite even to robots at first (with his white hat) and then becoming the MiB who sorta acknowledges the hosts but not showing any respect towards them and even torturing them for his amusement. And now wearing a black hat obviously.
Although now that I think about it it all seems so obvious that it might just be a misdirection. Making us think that Will is the MiB only to reveal that it was something else entirely, and then we'll all go "Aaaaaaah of course!".

Alternative timelines is a perfect way to encompass a twist given how westworld works. Host don't age and every time deloroes wakes up, it is a new cycle. So while we assume the stories are told linearly, they actually happen in cycles with plenty that is left out all the time. Just happens that so far we assume the cycles are linear.
