I was honestly fine with his character, but one of the things that makes s1 so much better than s2 was that it was much more focused on the two main characters, so I think removing a tertiary character like gay operator man or tough girl would be a positive thing

One thing that really bothered me was that cult of Bezzerides father not playing a bigger role in the plot.

Gay operator man was the best, desu. He should have been the main character, Ray his partner. Frank is a minor character who interacts with Ray, so we still get the Ray and Frank scenes but without the family drama.

Maybe Ani is a dyke side character who works with them on the investigation and gay operator man and Ani beard for each other.

What I liked the most about the first season was how the supernatural elements felt intertwined with the setting. The closest thing season 2 had to that was bizzare sex parties and shit. I feel like setting it somewhere totally remote like northern Alaska would be awesome.

I always felt this way, but then I stumbled across this massive article that basically spelled out perfectly what I couldn't quite grasp and it blew my mind.

Essentially season 2 is quintessential old style noir. The main character is the Vinci political machine/system and it's shrewd use of pawns to destroy whatever comes up against it. For instance, look at the picture from the 70s, of Chessani and Pitler and a few others on retreat. The older man in that picture is probably the same guy in the end, at the ground breaking ceremony for the California megahighway, lurking at the edge of the frame, who slips away entirely when a picture is snapped of the occasion. Idk, it just felt like true, hardboiled noir to me. Hopeless, relentless.

He asks where Cohle is and the officers say Hart was the only person they found, apart from Errol and the already decayed corpse of Williams. Hart keeps yelling for Cohle.

Hart wakes up in the hospital, and he talks to an officer about Carcosa. Plot : Rothwell had something happen to him. somewhere at another city. He got send to Florida PD to clear his head and get a new start.
Oldschool Detective and constantly drunk Crowe is to be his partner. The night before their first shift, Crowe is murdered in the most astonishing voodoo-like ritual murder you can imagine. Rothwell investigates and keeps finding little paper trails Crowe left him, all of whom trigger a flashback to Crowes detective work which show the viewer little breadcrumps of what Crowe was after.
A lot of switching back and forth between the two detectives.
