I felt that this list was fairly short and surely there must be some other contenders for the throne. But after checking this is easily the top 5 of the last 5 years. There a a few movies, such as Sicaro, which are better but which I simply don't consider to be pure action movies like Wick and Raid.

It seems like the genre has mostly been eaten up be capeshit and out of those only Dredd can be considered a properly good action movie.

Seriously though, besides The Dark Knight and Dredd superhero movies, there aren't many good superhero movies when it comes to action. They are decent enough to see in the cinema once, maybe a second time a few years later and you're blazed on a sunday afternoon or something.

Wick gets a lot of hype primarily because the action genre is currently in an all-time low and it looks amazing when compared to most other action movies.

I mean imagine being 15 today and having grown up watching cartoon shit like X-Men and Avengers, maybe war movie here or there, and then you get an old school revenge action movie like Wick with slick gun play and a badass operator main character that doesn't mind shooting someone in the face.

Fury Road for sure. And pretty much everything else above, Raid, EoT, Dredd, even BvS. Wick had some cool parts, a great concept, but was just pretty good for me. I'm hopeful about the sequel though.

I burst into tears of joy when the piece of pillar sloughs off after Neo and Trinity are finished.
The subway bothers me because of the concrete and tile impacts. I never liked it as much, same with Neo versus infinite Smiths in the rain. But the lobby scene is pure joy.
