If it weren't for Keanu and Winona dragging him down not a person alive would deny Gary was the best Dracula

>Shadow of the Vampire
>Dafoe as Schreck

...

I'M STINKY DINKY AH-AH-AH

Honestly it's a dead subgenre of horror. The only film to do anything really innovative with it was Let the Right One In and the novel was better about pushing a new vampire formula.

Anne Rice essentially killed vampires.

vampires are gay

I will rape your mother to death.

Did you enjoy "The Only Lovers Left Alive?" I'm a sucker for Jarmusch.

And Hiddleston is dreamy.

If only she'd kept the tone of "Interview with the Vampire" going throughout her series, it would be based.

It was bullshit how she decided to make Lestat into another boring generic tragic hero instead of a gloriously self-indulgent villain.

>The only film to do anything really innovative with it was Let the Right One In

Thirst

Say what you will about the quality of the show, but the vampires in The Strain are interesting.

Having Christopher Marlowe be a character was cool but naming the characters Adam and Eve and having them Forrest Gump through history was painful to me. And it didn't really do a lot to try a new angle.

I will death your mother to rape.

Vampires are cool as heck, but only when they're sophisticated human-seeming gentlemen and not dumb bloodthirsty monsters. Horror fans, low IQs in general, seem to disagree with this and promote abortions like 30 Days of Night as vampkino but the truly memorable vampires are all men(-seeming) of class and stature.

The key to a great vampire character is apparent effeteness.

You forget Klaus my man
No one beats Klaus

I saw both Nosferatu movies (the original and the Werner Herzog remake) and both were great but I felt like there was a weird little balance between them in a way.
In the original, the movie didn't have really anything going for it's main characters (understandable) but Count Orlok still holds up really well as a villain.
In the Herzog remake, virtually every aspect was improved, but the actual Nosferatu felt really, really lackluster to me (and the movie cut my favorite scene from the original which is when Nosferatu takes over the ship).
Still, both were great.

Vampires are meant to be bloodthirsty monsters parading as sophisticated human-seeming gentlemen.

Just admit you want to self-insert as some handsome but evil guy who gets all the chicks and acts in a very aristocratic and supercilious nature and stop pretending it has anything to do with characterization

>having them Forrest Gump through history

Yeah, I get it. And I chortled at your humor. I think I enjoyed that final shot of them starving and saying "fuck it all" and going after the young couple, as the credits rolled.

My favorite vampire movies for various reasons are:

Nosferatu the Vampyr
Vampyr
Fright Night
Monster Squad
Near Dark
The Blood of Dracula
Bram Stoker's Dracula
Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter
Vampire Hunter D

Tbh all of the original Universal horror movies, Dracula especially, did not age too well

I feel like Dio has a lot of traits I wish most vampire characters would have.

Vampires are allegories for sociopathic NEETs.

>Dracula especially, did not age too well
The original Universal Dracula really didn't, and I think Nosferatu > Dracula.
But I just rewatched it recently and Bela Lugosi's performance is still really good

That's cool but horror die-hards (low IQs) seem to want vampires to just be zombies, which is totally stupid.

in the actual folklore of eastern Europe vampires basically WERE zombies

I just don't think vampires should be stupid zombies. If you like stupid zombies go consume zombie material. Stop ruining elegant sophisticated vampire culture.

What about if vampires who still have a living human heart are still thinking beings but vampires who've died are zombies?

Best Vampire

This is true but also irrelevant. Like it or not, Bram Stoker defined the vampire the same way JRR Tolkien defined the elf despite its prior existence as a scrawny small deceptive piece of shit fairy creature.

I'm not even a gigantic fan of the original Nosferatu desu. Faust and many other horrors from the same era do a lot more for me, though it does have the aesthetic and mood down. Definitely prefer Herzog's though

I think The Mummy aged the best of the original Universal films, and although it's literally the same story as Dracula basically it's just done a lot better.

nothing personnel kid

I thought they were allegories for the dangers of promiscuous sex

Molasar is an energy vampire. He has a cool look, thanks to Enki Bilal's design. Underrated Mann film, full of atmosphere.

Btw Blade 2 is del Toro's best movie and even though it still kind of sucks it's like Aliens with vampires so that's pretty cool

I prefer Herzog's version for literally everything in the movie that doesn't involve the actual vampire.
So in that sense I kind of rank both movies as equals.

What We Do in the Shadows has my favourite take on vampires this decade because it's basically a mash of every trope together. The Werewolf designs were also awesome.

I don't know how anybody could not love Klaus my man, can't say I'm with you on that one

So vampires can't get into your house without permission. I have questions about this.

Does it have to be the owner, or can any human give permission? If it has to be the owner, does this mean for renters they need permission from the landlord? Perhaps it just has to be a resident.

I assume they can get into public buildings, but what about shared spaces in private buildings? Can a vampire get into an apartment building stairwell but not the apartments themselves?

What about dorm rooms?

What about tents?

Vampires can't get in anywhere since they do not exist

Oh no, I must have worded myself incorrectly.
I loved the actor and his performance. It was in regards to how the character was handled that I was upset.

Ask one of his daughters why.

Was he a good actor?

Where's your sense of fun user?

I'm not saying he was a good or even vaguely sane man, but he was a great actor and a great artist

No

>liking vampires

is that a real question?

thirst was better than LtROI

BASED Tarkin

Vampire Hunter D is one of my favorite takes on vampires. Not only because of the authors love of Dracula in general, but because there are so many Nobles that I thought were so well done. Duality being one of the major reasons why I like D, and it's nice to have antagonists that aren't all ghoulish or the same preset formula. Great reads, and I can't wait for more information on the war with the new spin off series.

I've only ever seen the 80s anime movie, haven't read anything but I probably should

Anderson is a good character

mainly because Alucard is literally Godlike and can't die

thats why I liked the Butler more too

The original Dracula novel was mostly an anti-immigrant polemic.

You're missing out, desu. Left hand is comedy gold. I recommend every one of the English 24 volumes with the unfortunate exception of 5: The Stuff of Dreams for having one of the worst endings imo.

Dang it hit the other quote unintentionally. That's what I get for typing on a phone.

Convince me he wasn't just a meme.

I love horror but I feel like there hardly any vampire movies I truly love. Vampire's Kiss with Nic Cage is probably my favorite because it's hilarious and like a proto-American Psycho. I wish the Nosferatu/Salem's Lot style of vampire would come back into the mainstream.

I do want to see Thirst though.

Waaait the old novels got translated? When did this happen? Where?

Nosferatu-type vampires should make a return. Del Toro added a nice twist with the mouth vagina thing and making them crack addicts. Maybe follow MtG's route and make them tribals?

...

>not liking vampires

What if vampires had fangs that grew out of their limbs?

Is the Fright Night remake comfy Halloween kino?

Another thought. What about making them into mimics? They assume the identity of their last victim or pic related where they have a mask?

blade was absolute kino

>babbys first vampire movie
>kino
?

Prepare to get judged pagan fucking shit

And dickless traps.

>dickless traps.
that's called a woman, friend

That's a very tiny tongue.

We all know who the best Dracula is

The sexuality of vampires has always existed as a sort of beta or outcast power fantasy. Vampires seem preoccupied with a juvenile form of sexual expression that most likely stems from insecurity.

There are basically no vampires who start off good looking with relatively normal sex lives. It's always some hideous monster abducting babes or some NEET virgin who turns into a porn star via the transformation and then starts rampaging through pussy recklessly.
