The "bullies" in my schools were mostly mexcrement kids who would just incessantly bug you to "borrow" money and if you told them to fuck off they would start making vague threats but ultimately do nothing and leave to go find easier targets.

I think the stereotypical bully was something that mostly existed in the 50s and 60s when 80s scriptwriters were growing up and got bullied.

I've worked in inner city schools and rural schools in the state of New York, I was part of a few studies that actively tried to help problem kids (the solution is basically crash courses in Cognitive Therapy - check out freakenomics podcast to get the details although they were doing it in Chicago)

Anyway, I have first hand experience before zero tolerance anti-bullying in these new york pub HS, and after but the story is sadly similar. It's just human nature: people will bully people. If you try to stop it, they will get angry at their victim and BULLY EVEN HARDER. We didn't try to stop bullying but many teachers asked us what they should do (they already had policies but they noticed they didn't work or had the opposite effect) We told them what we could but soon after a huge anti-bullying campaign happened across US schools and our suggestions were ignored.

See, when kids bully kids the proper response is to talk to the victim and convince them to stop acting like a victim and to try to avoid their bully and never react to their bully as well as seek friends or even pay other students to group around them - we told teachers to ask students to 'protect' victims by hanging around them and trying to hide them from the bully. We also explained that when the bully is punished - in any perceivable way (bullies are paranoid and have a greater victim complex than their prey) they escalate. So the solution is to ignore the bully, even if they are caught harassing or attacking a student, just break up the fight and focus all their attention on the victim, sending the bully away without judgement.

It sort of worked for a while, but then zero tollerance came about. The bullies who were dumb did get caught and expelled quite a bit (causing crime on the streets to go up) but most of the bullies just found more clever, cruel, and fucked up ways to bully people. If anything bullying in HS is now gender equal: cruel and subtle.

I was never bullied but in high school most of my ""friends"" ostracized me which is just as bad, sitting alone at a table.

Every "bully" i encountered backed down the second i did anything back or couldnt fight for shit. Ive even been guilt tripped for beating one up after he was picking on me because his brother just died. My family moved around a lot when I was a kid due to my dad's job. I was always "the new kid" so yeah, bullies exist. The trick is to honestly just go apeshit on the biggest one of the bunch. You're not going to win, but that isn't the point. You'd be surprised how quickly they realize its not worth fucking with you after you bite a chunk out of someone's thigh.

Humans focus completely on status and for girls having hot guy friends or a boyfriend makes you queen bee. An ugly boy hanging around you or as your boyfriend will cripple your status, it's actually a direct threat to them. If you talk to them away from school where no other girls will see or judgethem they will tease you as practice or try to make out/fuck depending on their age/willingness but then treat you like a leper when she's near even girls she hates.

It's kinda funny in retrospect but it still hurts.

No I was mostly talking about middle school so the whole beta orbiter and relationship shit was barely even on my mind, it's just worth noting that girls do way more damage to a boy's development and environment in school rather than the often depicted physical bully who keeps the nerd down. Even back in school I could give a shit if some guy called me nerd or hit me, but girls even when they're practically children just have a gift for sociopathically ruining someone through mental manipulation.

I got more attractive during high school and what do you know I got way better treatment from girls. It's just messed up how this world works but that's the way it is.

As a girl I can only speak to girl bullying, which is something else all together. It's a lot of emotional backstabbing and shit talk, claiming they are gonna beat your ass and then never following up, etc.. Basically Mean Girls is an accurate representation of normal highschool for girls at least

Only people who tried to bully me were short Mexican kids in middle school, but only when with 2-3 other short Mexicans.

High school was cool, no bullies there. Maybe I just went to a good one though. Being on the football team (O-line and D-line, starter first two years second string the third) might also have helped. For what it's worth, from the 3 years I was on, there didn't appear to be any chad type bullies on our school football team either. Or, at least, all of them were quite friendly to everyone at the school. Overall a friendly community, even if I ended up being closer friends with the water boy and a couple bench warmers than the alphas of the team.

Forgot, also encountered trouble from like two loner white kids at different points. Definitely were not Chads, too skinny and antisocial for that. Just sorta fuck up loners who liked to call you names, break your stuff, and start fights with you because they had nothing better to do.

The only kind of bullying I think I've seen is people that played around too much to the point that it's bothersome to a lot of people.
