He's better at writing about stuff he didn't create. The Superman video was an adaptation of the comic books, Wrestling Isn't Wrestling was a play off of the WWE, and Chronicle was a ripoff of Akira.

His screenplays are good reads so I see why they get picked up. There's just a disconnect between that and the movies.

The Jewish thing is a cheap shot, especially since he's already the son of a very famous and renowned director.

He's creative enough to get an idea rolling (I thoroughly enjoyed World War Z when I first read it). However, I also interned in development for a very reputable actor's company a couple years ago. Interns in development spend most of their time reading scripts, and at one point one of the CEs had us get together and do a group critique on a script by Max. It was hands down one of the worst things I've ever read, everything was just awful. Ever since then I've wondered if he used the power he already had through his father to get his books ghost-written. Obviously not everything a writer works on will be good but I refuse to believe something as detailed and polished as World War Z (it's not THAT great but it's a fun read) can do such a horrible job with scripts.
