The biggest advantage of a theater is the sound though, VR goggles don't change that at all. A home theater system is vastly superior.

The only thing VR really has a distinct advantage over non-VR in, is porn. In video games and film, the drawbacks outweigh the advantages enough to prevent it from being anything more than a gimmick.

The Rift hasn't sold ANYWHERE NEAR what they expected. And Vive isn't doing well either. It's the very definition of a niche market. And a niche market isn't going to be the future. It needs to be hugely popular and successful. This is 3D all over again. People claiming it's the future and yet a decade later it's not even talked about. Or 3D again back in the 80's when it was "the future of movies" only to fade away till the short lived resurgence.

By the way, people who've tried it all say porn on VR is worse than regular porn. What version of the rift do you have, because the release has 2160 x 1200, and if you can see the pixels then you have above average eyesight. People with 20/20 or worse won't be able to notice the pixels.

The porn industry has been setting the standard for how media is viewed, stored, played back, etc for years now. I don't think it will change any time soon. VR is coming and a my guess is that a quality yet affordable VR headset with high quality headphones will be coming soon. It's definitely happening.

I have the Vive and VR is very cool but yes, you can see SDE . You get used to it but it's there.

With VR you can watch movies on an Imax sized screen. Just need the next gen to do 4k or better and we're golden.
