In my cart for $150, all blind purchases except Paths of Glory

Anything I should prioritize?

why did the last thread get deleted?

i can just download the criterion collection

no it's not the same, you can't download the booklet or the feeling of physically owning your favorite films

you can't download someone to love you

They're working on that.

>pleb tier quality
>no extras
>no shelf porn
Why would you do that?

Got these

REALLY fucking pissed tree of wooden clogs was pushed back to feburary desu. Seems like a perfect autumn film.

>TFW it only ships to North America

The only upcoming film I feel I need is the Lone Wolf & Cub set, it being my favorite book series and favorite hip hop subgenre

At least you're not canadian. I have no idea if I should bite or not, considering non-free 2 week+ no tracking intl shipping

Roma seems pretty fucking interesting even if it's a lesser Fellini.

Tree of Wooden Clogs is supposed to be fucking great. I imagine it's something like Days of Heaven. Maybe better

Exterminating Angel is genius in narrative and ideas but something about the direction irks me.

>Paths of Glory
>Spy Who Came in From the Cold
>Hidden Fortress

>923 titles
I don't believe you

What

Also I added Last Temptation because I love me some Jesus

Paths is lowkey kubricks best

>single movie costs $40 on sale
Wait you cucks actually pay for movies? At least you'll be able to impress your pleb friends with those sweet (((minimalist))) covers of your imdb approved entry level blu rays.

Just rewatched it on TCM during thanksgiving and now can't det Der treue husar out of my head

20 dipshit

>obscure rosselini tv movies are entry tier

since when is minimalism (and criterian isnt minimalist, see the godzilla packaging) jewish?

minimalism is Jewish anti-art and erodes white culture

>Blood Simple
>Friends of Eddie Coyle
>Night Train to Munich
>Wages of Fear

>japanese cinema is jewish

you deserve it for one of those choices
i will let you decide which

Should I?

>Cred Forums is so dumb it's impossible to tell the difference between their genuine "opinions" and jokes

always gets me

andrei rublev (dvd) which will be getting a new criterion release soon along with Stalker.

>High and Low
>Seven Samurai
>Le Samuraï
Did I do good?

Thin red line or mulholland dr since they arent black & white pure kino

No way I dont believe it. If they could do stalker they would have already

Reddit is that way

I'm pretty sure it was confirmed by mosfilm. they have the new stalker restoration on their youtube.

youtube.com/watch?v=TGRDYpCmMcM

More like the BBC story you fucking bitch boy whitey

NEED ANDREI RUBLEV IN BLU RAY SO I CAN JERK OFF TO HORSE GENOCIDE IN HIGH DEF

I figured you for the chicken type

>Don't ship to europe

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

When is that B&N sale you niggers talk about?

do they have possession and on the silver globe?

November

I got the del toro set and blood simple. Really wanted to get dekalog and short cuts, but they both sold out pretty much instantly

Fucking Dekalog was sold out which killed me, but got Shock Corridor, Valerie, and Late Ray

Easily strangelove and the blob

epic shill

Non-americuck here. Wanting to get into Criterion blu-rays. I don't own a blu-ray player and know next to nothing about the region coding. Will I need to purchase an american player for these blu-rays to work or are there region free players?

Just wait till tomorrow.

filmstruck.com/

Try using google m8

Yes, these are region 1

Iirc you could get a usa games console that is regionfree for games like the ps3

>shit streaming quality
>no extras
>no shelf porn
>smaller library
Thanks but no

Asking here because I don't want to read pages of technical info, just want Cred Forums's opinions.

Are there disadvantages to using something like a PS3 over a player?

I think the only thing to consider with a player these days is if u want streaming services or not

I pay for movies because I have money to burn and I like to own shit

I was about to purchase Guillermo del Toro'sTrilogy , and 7 samurai .. But 74 bucks... Not an insane price for 4 movies, but I don't know, I need new clothes ..

>Cred Forumscore

Both are overpriced esp del toro and he's a meme director

Anything else I should get? The 12 year meme?

No to the 12 year meme. Everything else is okay, but everything is pretty mainstream/entry level. I don't know what to recommend however. Try Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters (and Patriotism is a fabulous companion), House (1977) is a silly horror movie that I adore, Richard III is the best Shakespeare adaption,
>inb4 Throne of Blood
Shock Corridor is awesome (any Fuller really), Ugetsu, idk man. Also, the Life of Brian edition isnt that good man; Gojira has a cool case.

It's entry level because it's to watch with my mom.

I added your suggestions to wishlist

>Mishima trailer
>Presented by francis ford coppola and george lucas
Lmao

The Lucas/Coppola meme can be ignored; if you have read any Mishima, it is an absolute must, and if you haven't it is still a really good watch. Another decent entrylevel is In the Mood for Love, and it's a pretty good edition.

>overpriced hard copies down to regular price

ah yes very impressive

You realize it's on sale because of their streaming service releasing, right?

Streaming can smd

Most impressive

>all those filthy plebs buying literal garbage such as Paths of Glory

Feels great owning Armageddon doesn't it?

This criterion?

Kino

>doesn't ship to Australia

why even bother living in this shithole anymore

I would be seriously depressed if I lived there

A true classic

Good website, give me few ideas about way to torrent.

I do and I am

FUCKING DO IT!

i literally only own criterions and penguin books

>it really is my birthday today
>already jerked off
>watched "When Marnie Was There"
>have no money for anything
>will spend my entire day in my room playing Sakura Spirits
Just waiting to die at this point.

>tfw the Canadian exchange rate combined with shipping to Canada makes the deal hardly worth it

I'll just wait until Amazon has a Criterion sale I guess.

I concur but Amazon.ca sale is extremely rare

Help,

Only have 50$, so I have to decide between Seventh Seal and Solaris. Which should I pick?

I dont have any money for movies.

What do you think Cred Forums?

>no Eraserhead ITT
come on kids

Solaris

everyone already has it

yes pls dear lord

might impulse buy godzilla and cassavetes 5 films right now

Solaris is more rewatchable IMO. I really enjoyed 7th Seal but don't feel the need to watch it again any time soon

My thin red line and 7 samurai arrive tomorrow

Good job getting prime matthew

>Prime matthew

wat

>Get excited about this
>Remember I don't have a blu ray player
Fuk

>Badlands
>Days of Heaven
>The Thin Red Line
>The Game
>Seven Samurai

Ultra-tryhard tier I get it but I can't wait to watch on my HT setup

Dazed and confused is a true detective prequel right?

not even a blu-ray drive for your computer or a game console?

This websites formatting is fucking disgusting.

Thinking of this.

y/n?

I ordered Eraserhead, The Magician, and On the Waterfront. That last one I can't believe I hadn't bought yet. I own a ton of these.

I almost tear up when the soldiers start singing along.

b8/10

How so? they're all fantastic films.

Shoah is jew garbage and u r a faggot

>I'm eyeing that godzilla blu
get it, it's 10/10
>amazing image
>excellent sound
>intredasting commentary

>three holocaust films
>knowing Cred Forums has infested every corner of Cred Forums
>don't have the 50% pricing

do they even sell the Essential Art House editions anymore?

What?

the one that isn't a meme movie

I think they do, but still only as DVDs.

Got Don't Look Now and Sisters because I'm feeling in a spooky mood

Did I do good?

>dekalog is out of stock
fuck me
I'll wait til B&N sale then

Criterion has the new 2016 Mosfilm restoration of Stalker on Filmstruck right now opening with a Criterion logo

>tfw want more Kurosawa but think I should get more Bergman first
fuck it I'll just download it all

Already outlined in thread why streaming can die in a fire

I'll wait for proper Criterion release

>live in brazil
>get nothing
i cry everyday

>using my gf's credit card to buy movies she'll hate

Burden of dreams comes zizek recommended

Also remember to use code

God dammit, I can't use it on Asphalt Jungle because it's not currently in stock ;-;

doesn't filmstruck actually have a decent bitrate though?
netflix and amazon are pure trash, but things like Sony's 4k service are actually fucking awesome with 65MB/s bitrates

are these versions really worth the higher price compared to somewhere like Amazon?
Ah well. No time to figure this out. Maybe for next time.

>none of you niggers buying Tokyo drifter

Plebs

They're the same. Amazon has them cheaper, but the current sale means that Criterion's website is the better deal now.

This is what I picked up:

>Judex
>Richard III
>Lady Snowblood
>Fantastic Planet

Was a really big fan of Eyes without a Face when I bought two years ago; although I dragged my feet I am excited to see another Franju film. Fantastic Planet is one of those films that has stayed with me since seeing bits and pieces of it as a teen, so this is a good opportunity to finally watch/own a copy.

I am a little disappointed that Chimes at Midnight isn't in stock, but I'll just pick that up after I get paid on Amazon.

>Welles still portrayed himself as an irresistible lady's man even after becoming a gigantic, titanic fat fuck

You mean compared to vanilla releases? Absolutely (at sale prices)

You get best quality, best extras, and best packaging

I would portray myself that way too, modesty is a mem

>literally two doller difference per film

boy what a sale. not like I could just buy them 46% percent off on amazon any other time of the year.

why is this criterion stuff better than normal dvd or bluray releases? enlighten me pls

Most of the films aren't available on Blu-ray in non-Criterion versions. They're all about giving great films great releases with high quality picture and detailed special features. They're just the best quality Blu-rays out there.

criterion is aimed towards film snobs (which Cred Forums falls under) and as such it has things that film snobs care about like
>best [picture] quality, best extras, and best packaging

If you don't care about buying you can just get hulu and watch all of their releases online.

first of all, most older films, particularly non-English language films, don't get "normal" dvd or blu-ray releases (in America at least; Criterion is a US-based company making products for the North American market)

and they usually have higher quality transfers sourced from the best extant elements and restorations available, plus a lot of effort goes into adding supplementary material (historical, scholarly, behind-the-scenes extras, booklets, etc.)

also cool packaging that looks good on a shelf

okay, thanks, I understand now

>best extras

Only if you buy their monthly pop trash like squid and the whale.

>"Wait, you actually want decent extras for our classic art house films while paying the same price as our mumblecore and anglo trash?"

>film snobs (which Cred Forums falls under)

where is this Cred Forums you speak of?

we talk about kino so much, the only people who talk about it more must be pic related

Isn't Criterion yanking their library from hulu?

yes, that's a disheartening trend from the last couple years or so, but isn't normally the case for older foreign classics

though you would think someone like Mizoguchi would have great extras. only the Ugetsu release is really satisfying in that regards (and why couldn't Tony Rayns do a full-length commentary for Life of Oharu rather than just the first 20 mins. baka)

yep, going to move in early November to Filmstruck in a partnership with TCM

hopefully they'll also upgrade the quality of the streamed versions of their films while they are at it

Oh. I see. There are differences. at least looking at a specific example like Monty Python's Life of Brian.

I'm sad so much stuff isn't even released on BluRay. While trying to search for info on whether Criterion Collection was worth it over other versions, I came across an article about how Cronenberg's Crash was never released on BluRay.

Not a huge difference in that case because a blu ray was released that reused the criterion source

However im gonna take a guess and say the box looks like butt and it doesnt have all the extras

>fw didn't think about exchange rate
>tfw what I thought was gonna cost me 75 bucks actually cost me 102 for three films
>tfw I'm an idiot

How do you know when it uses the same source?

Congrats you played yourself

Enjoy your movies though

A review

okay, looks like I still saved some money but fuck me, only like 10 or 15 bucks

Sale is extended but if I wait for the holiday sale on barnes and noble and have a membership will I save more?

yes, an extra 10% off the 50% reduced price

Two of my fav films on that list. Nice selection user.

I nabbed Eating Raoul and Carnival of Souls.

>watching CC titles with your mom

I rarely do that. Most of what they have is stuff my mom would avoid.
I did watch My Life as a Dog with my sister and she really liked the film.

I said fucked it. Any Criterion there is, I usually take part in it.

They're rare and for me now, not worth it. The titles are always the same. I already have Godzilla and Lynch films and nor do I care to get the films of Wes ANDERSON.

>Wagies of Fear
>r9kcore

THANKS CRI
