i've been offer a job as a teacher in an american public high school, but i'm reluctant, it sounds like way too much stress. It pays better than my current factory job, but I dunno... any teacher here who can give me advice on what to expect and how to deal with it?

Fucking third world countries...

Yeah, American education system is trash. Tell that to the Americans supporting spending two trillion dollars on the military though

Teacher here.
Depends on what you are teaching.
Depends on the social background of your students.

Teachers where I live are paid about 80k. Not sure where these poor teachers are from but it's not the midwest.

lost

I made 60k starting, but then again I didnt go to college

Depends on a few things.
If you are in an innner city, a ghetto, a very rural town, or just any sort of general 'bad neighborhood' the job will be fucking awful.
Kids now a days are not being raised with respect; they wont give a shit about you or anything you say. Running that classroom will be more like trying to teach 5 kids who are interested in learning while 20 kids ignore you entirely and 5 other kids actively try to disrupt you to make your day as awful as possible.

If you are in a decent suburb, the job might be decent. But even then, not good, just decent. The kids will have a little more respect and will be less over the top with how they disrupt. If you are lucky enough to teach an accelerated or honors class, with sutdents who actually want to learn, teaching can be quite the joy; but they only give those positions to professors who have been at the school for a decade because they dont want them to quit.

Also, the pay is better, but keep in mind how much work you have to do at home in your free time as a teacher. The pay seems better until you realize youre working like 60 hour weeks with all the lesson planning and grading you have to do.

Advice for teaching at an american highschool:
From day 1 be a hardass. They will try to test your limits; if you give them an inch they will take a mile.

You need to put your foot down HARD at the FIRST sign of any insubordination or those students will be monsters the whole semester.

If only there was a word that meant every two weeks,

Those who can't do, teach.

Try once a month. Shit was nuts. Sales are a bitch. 2 8 balls week one. Ashtray roach day 30

Rural kids are angels are you are a nigger

expect having only a percent of people actually care about you or what you talk about. I work in a private school and we do courses in languages so I am lucky enough to have kids and adults that actually want to be there and git gud. Was working in a public school 2 years. never again with such levels of "not caring".

MOST rural kids are angels.
The problem is the bad ones are WAY worse.
The bad ones are over-confident idiots who destroy everything around them.
And the school doesnt give a shit, teachers problem to deal with em.

military gets a product at the end. Public school just babysits black kids.

I mean if it’s more money and you like it go for it. I quit after two semesters because you’re basically like an education janitor. No one cares, you’re powerless and treated like shit every day, the kids treat you like shit and you can’t just say “fuck this you’re a kid are you crazy talking to me like that?” Drama between teachers or the school who gives a fuck. Also your pay is exactly the same if you wreck yourself with effort or if you don’t do shit, no one cares because teachers are highly disposable.

I was changing lives, kids crying and suicidal kids finding their soul to perform like they never knew they could. Felt very good to help them but honestly feeling good about teaching is the major currency you receive, not the money because half of it goes back into your classroom.

I said fuck it and took a sales job on Wall Street, now I make 6 figures and laugh whenever I see my old co workers
