Same here, I have spend big part of my life by working around our house with my father as well as with work on grand parent's house...
In my region, is almost impossible to find house/flat with decent price. It's caused by automotive industry, the prices are screwed up as crazy... I have oportunity to purchase this apartment for 1/3 of standard price. (Because of condition) I have to almost burn it down with napalm first... then start to reconstruct remaining walls. After two years I'm almost done.

Same here... this is a small apartment house (with 6 flats) from 50's. It's located in village (on the edge of it). I was suprised how quiet is this place. (Only during weekends there is a bit of noise from flat above me... but the guy is truck driver and he is most of the week aboard...)
To work I have to drive 20min, to nearest city it's 10min by car... and there is possible to take an internacional train, so every central city is 35 - 60min away.

we don't really have a clear allotment of sick days or anything aside from general purpose pto, attendance problems are basically at management's discretion which has led to some favoritism and inconsistent enforcement
it's mostly been in my favor so far, but I would prefer if the expectations were more clearly defined
I think if I actually called out last minute four times every month it would be a problem

That makes sense. I think we have such a problem because we are so short staffed, and a lot of the jobs only have a few people in the whole plant who can do them, so when one person calls in, we shut down an entire mill for a shift
