been doing the AVGN for more then 10 years and it still fun to watch.

It was amusing before he got burned out from making The Movie.

Now it's just a job to keep the money coming in. The Screenwave people (Justin, Tony, Kieran & Ryan to the extent that he's a majority owner of Screenwave) are writing, directing, editing and producing the modern AVGN episodes (and have for several years), James is just acting in them.

Dude looks like he's totally tired of it. He's been doing it for 15 years now, he made a bunch of bad decisions while doing The Movie and he's wanted to move on but can't because AVGN's paying the bills.

So side projects like Rental Reviews are done which is almost entirely Screenwave inspired (which is why James rarely discusses the films and is more like a moderator). He's the face of Cinemassacre and AVGN's still paying the bills but I don't think his heart has been in it since 2014-15 or so.

TLDR; the man inspired me to follow my passion

As a youth I connected with a lot of his content because of my love of horror movies. Particularly his Cinemassacre Monster Madness marathons, I used to watch all the movies the same day the videos came out -- was a great primer for getting into scary movies.

I now work in Hollywood as a producers assistant, plan to one day to produce horror movies of my own.

10/10 content.

I remember downloading his videos off screw attack and putting them on my ipod video.
Then I would watch them before I went to sleep.

His early work is amazing and is the stuff that kicked off the let's play genre of entertainment. He caught lightning in a bottle. He didnt understand what made him so popular (assuming it was his cursing and anger) when it actually was his passion for video games as well as his zeitgeist insight into the mind of most gamers. Before him we had all experienced similar stuff he was just the first to put a voice to those thoughts. Since then hes failed to capture that magic except in fleeting instances( my favorite being the moment in his earthbound review where hes commenting on the mystery and magic of the series to stop and yell at his dad for interrupting him again) but in all honesty how could he? What we feel as gamers he distilled down to its vital essence, it was pure, it was simple, it was perfect. Youtubers and let's players have been coasting in his wake completely unaware that they'll never reach the peak he did. Maybe it was because he was first, or maybe it was because he did it best, but he influenced everyone at least to some degree. I like his work, even now, but it's clear hes said all he wanted to say. I wish he didnt have to work any more but brilliance hardly gets you anything nowadays unless you market it properly.

I liked how it felt like you and him are at the same place playing the NES as you explored video game history. The comedy skits are acceptable, didn't get to long and if they were long they were original. Now as we have seen in the Jerrasic park trespasser episode he had a skit go on for to long on how some rando people you never seen before are late for making shit for a guy in a dinosaur outfit.

I remember him back in the day good watches... I had similar feelings about some games he didn't do to my knowledge but then he got bigger with the YouTube community gaining more recognition and I kind of fell off watching him.

Judging by what I've seen and heard, nobody has anything bad to say about James. He seems like a genuinely nice guy.

Oddly enough he is terrible at making movies and playing video games. But he got into the reviews at the right time, he has worked his ass off, and deserves his success.

His biggest strength is his narration, he is a terrific reviewer.
