I say this as someone who does not believe his wife is cheating on him but has been cheated on before: when I accepted the fact that she and I spend enough time apart just going about our normal everyday days that if she really wanted to cheat, she could do it and I would never be able to know or confirm it unless she was trying to get caught, my concerns that she might be cheating on me vanished. If I ever found out she was, I would be extremely hurt, but literally every relationship I could be in with a normal routine will ultimately result in unaccountable time apart, so there’s nothing could be changed in general short of becoming a controlling type of person I don’t want to be. My only other choice is to live a life of bottled anxiety every time my wife is out of my sight.
I like my life, I enjoy our routines, the sex is good, we are in the top 10% of income earning households together, and as I let go of the control necessary to prevent that sort of thing (and to be clear that kind of control when a woman isn’t cheating will drive her to) it occurs to me that if she is using work time to bang and doing so in a way that doesn’t infect our interactions or sex life or her demeanor in general AND has managed to keep me in the dark about it, I’m not sure I would care as much as I think I would if I found out.
It’s funny. I used to care so much about this but as I’ve aged I just want to disturb the regularity of my life as little as possible.
