They are worth it if you know what you're getting and you're okay with the costs and downsides.
Don't expect them to cure your depression or turn your life around. Many people do report their dolls being a stabilizing or calming element in their lives, but if your life is shit and you hate yourself now that will still be true after you buy a sex doll.
Don't expect them to be the best lay ever. Obviously, they just sit there and don't participate any. It's way better than masturbation, and it (at least for me), registers to my brain as actual sex, just not very good sex. Not everyone has that response, but many do.
Don't expect them to be maintenance free. You're going to need to clean them, especially after use. You'll want to buy clothes for her. You'll spend time combing her wig. She'll need fully body washes semi-regularly, and oil massages quarterly. You'll even have to learn how to apply makeup, because the factory makeup won't last forever.
Don't expect them to last forever. They wear out. Small nicks and tears add up, and skeletal failure can happen as well. A lot of issues can be fixed with hobby-style repairs, but not all. A properly taken care of doll can last 2 to 5 years, depending on intensity of use and manufacturer quality. If you buy off Aliexpress, expect less than 1 year before the skeleton breaks -- unless you get lucky.
Do expect them to be heavy. The weight cannot be overstated. Take whatever your prospective doll purchase weighs, and double that weight, and that's about how heavy she'll feel on a benchpress. If you can bench twice her weight, then go ahead and order her, but if not, you're going to be pushing it every time you try to move her around. The number one complaint new doll buyers have is that they bought a doll too heavy to meaningfully use.
If all that still sounds like a good use of $1-2k, then go for it. I love my doll, and I'm not alone.
