Well, I've really put time in tuning an m3, but I'm in an m3 gt2 car now. Tweaked the suspension on a bit, half a degree camber front and rear over stock, half a degree toe in in the rear, 6 degrees caster all aimed for better turn in without compromising high speed stability, and cut just a bit off the front sway bar stiffness hoping to reduce understeer. Slowed the lock on the differential from 58% to 55% both ways o make it a little less Skippy in the rear, and bumped up downforce on the aero front and rear while maintaining the same ratio.

Also decreased bump stiffness Andi creased rebound stiffness to make it a bit less Skippy if I come off the curb. I like to use it a bit for differential steering on the inside for sweepers, but I also throttle out sometimes to much and hit the outside curb coming out.

You should try the E39 m5 or an e39 irl. The z link suspension design shares a lot in common with the z3, it's wonderful. I had an e39 528i before my E46 330i, the m52 was slower than dog shit but the handling was amazing for a sedan. I loved that. I test drove an e39 540i once, and someday I would love to find an e39 m5. The rack and pinion steering was my main reason for picking a 528i over a 540i initially, but the v8 makes up for all the lack of power the 528i had. And I love the manual transmissions from those era BMWs

I'd bet, but the m52 just wasn't quite enough for me in the 528i. I liked the m64 in my E46 330i, it was just enough power for me. Very linear, I liked that about both the motors though, it was what got me into BMWs when I had an E36 325i with an m50

Oh yeah, forgot to add I love the way they break loose when you loose traction, very controlled. Even with traction control in my e39 and my E46 I kept it off when driving for fun and racing.

I guess the i6 low torque and super short gearing is working for me for now, have some bigger e36 intake headers on my z3 now- can’t even fit the stock cover over the top of the engine because of the larger diameter of the intake,
A bmw v8 sounds extremely tempting- I had a chance at the 850ci 5.0L+ v12 coupe a little while ago man I wish I got it

I came from Corvettes before BMWs, so the low end torque doesn't really impress me much, but I love the i6 linearity. The 540i v8 I drove seemed to maintain that linear power curve, and I loved that, but as far as working on the car goes I'm a bigger fan of the inline sixes - one bank of spark plugs and injectors and what not is much nicer to work on.
