Honestly people talk themselves into more tickets than not. The police I work with 9/10 times genuinely want people to be safe and pulling someone over for going 10 over in town is just to get them to slow down for the innocent civilians. I won’t really give tickets unless the person did something real bad or if they are just a dick to me. Treat me like a person and be cooperative and I’ll show you all the kindness I can.

Self reflection is something I take very seriously in my job and life. I want to go to bed easily with the decisions I make.

Honestly it wasn’t for a very altruistic reason at the start. I wanted a job that would make me excited to get up in the morning and would change every day. I wanted the fights and chases and excitement. Hearing the stories of my fellow officers and living the life I have been living has changed that though. I want to be the cop that when you leave the stop you think “man that guy was actually pretty cool”. I want to make a positive impact in people’s lives and show empathy whenever I can. One of the least glamorous jobs we have is doing death reports to families. It’s one that I take great care and put a lot of importance in though. I want to be the officer that held a family and wept with them to show them that their loved one mattered.

Haha you have to realize how difficult it is to get a job in law enforcement. With a degree it took me 7 months of actively applying and going to physical agility courses to finally land a job. I won’t risk it just to make a couple strangers believe me. Most people believe me anyway.

Honestly I think it’s more of a poverty thing. I think that blacks are typically the ones under the poverty line and it’s poor people who commit crimes. They do it because it’s either all they know or the only way for them to make good easy money. It’s also a culture thing where black families often raise their children as victims and telling them police and whites hate them and will keep them down. It’s the college educated and wealthy black people that I have come across in my life that makes these beliefs strong. Not to mention my major was sociology.

I worked for the police and know a cop that was forced to hit speeding ticket quotas, he refused because he was a decent guy and eventually got let go for insubordination. Good luck out there hope you have a good sheriff.

Most cops don’t wear Kevlar. Just bullet proof vests. Also most cops don’t just go out of their way to shoot dogs. The there are about a million police officers out there and the videos online only show a very small minority. Also think of it this way. I’m going into a crack house and there are dogs snarling. It’s probably a safe bet that the owner is a piece of shit to the dog and it’s not a good boy. I don’t want to get dog bit so I’m going to do whatever I can to prevent it. I want to try pepper spray first but that’s not always an option. I would be very upset if I had to kill a dog personally.
I’ve been in this job long enough to know the fucked up nature of it. I’m more than man enough for it. It’s the weak that cannot look past the evil and see the good. The weak and simple minded that don’t seem to realize that the shit people we deal with are only a slim minority of people and that most folks are actually good. Trust me I’ve seen enough shit to know I’m here to stay. Only the weak change because others lead them to it.

Something like 80% of cops keep their jobs in my state. We see plenty of fucked up shit but the career attracts a certain type of people and we are strong enough to bear it. 80% is a lot of people staying in the career. It’s not as bad as some let on. I honestly think it’s some cops just trying to hype themselves up to others.

I’m in a pretty decent sized city but it’s no Dallas. We get plenty of deaths and violence. Murder isn’t an every day thing by any means though. Was real close to working in my capital though and I wish it worked out. I’d love more action. My city doesn’t have them. I think it’s the tiny towns that do because it generates money they need. I think they should be outlawed too.

I'm not OP but yeah it is mostly a training problem. They tell them to shoot if they feel threatened since they're completely protected under the law anyway.

Nope. I don’t plan on it but I would honestly like to get in more fights. I wouldn’t ever pick at people in order to start one though. Because she believed someone was in her apartment that shouldn’t be and they were close. Also mace is not good for inside use. She was for sure wrong but I don’t think she planned on killing anyone. I believe she mistakenly went into the wrong apartment. Something is not necessarily a crime by definition of my state if there is not criminal intent. That’s why we have punishment for things like accidental manslaughter or criminal negligence. It’s not necessarily a crime like murder is. It’s technically a crime I suppose but on a whole different level.

Attempt to find her pimp and take him down. Most hookers have pimps and they are way worse than most people know.

How long do you think it’ll be before you realize how mundane the job is? Lots of traffic details and paper work and house calls or other boring shit.

There are for sure boring parts of the job but the interactions I get to have with people on a daily basis makes it worth it. 3 out of 4 calls are boring in comparison to the good ones but the good ones make up for it. Plus the pension will be nice.

Last question because I really relate to it. I smoked a lot of weed in my past and was able to get the job. I told them I tried it a few times so I did lie and it made it a little hard to pass the polygraph but I did wind up getting the job. You can do it. Maybe even if you tell the truth.

Our department requires you to have been clean for 3 years, verified by hair folic testing. Plus passing the polygraph test. Medical is not allowed either, though there was a detective that had his medical card displayed above his desk, not sure how that worked. This is in one of the first two states to legalize recreational.
