After you realized drinking is an issue for you, how long did you go without drinking in order to normalize yourself and operate as a "normal" drinker? I'm about to turn 28 an have huge trends of alcoholism on both sides of my family, and I want to get it under control before it becomes a crutch.
Ive drank about 500 to 600 ml of vodka every night for about 10 years. I dont really want to stop, but I should. I keep myself in check by never drinking before 6 and always in bed by 12. Im not a loser. I live in a nice house, nice stuff etc.

I started drinking a lot on the weekends . Sorta didn't consider myself as a alcoholic. But i started looking at my bank account and seeing how much i use and i just need it to stop. No more
Justin Myers
Not me, but I do know someone that took around 1 year or so to get back on track. He stopped drinking spirits and had occasional beers to keep the social aspect of drinking going but without getting hammered. This was 2 years ago and he still gets some urges, however they are very manageable if you keep yourself busy. I think the key here is that he didn't stop, he tapered and it was successful.

at least swap it for something that's not as bad for your body. smoke some weed, or do some edibles, cheaper and a lot easier on your organs.
can also try to get addicted to good stuff. like exercise, reading, cooking, working on cars, or just become a workaholic. everyone is addicted to shit, just make it stuff that won't ruin you
Caleb James
In total I've maybe drank 10-15 beers. If you can't handle your alcohol, or actually, your problems, just drink yourself to death.
Jack Murphy
Btw: total number was maybe 9, so not even close to being an alcholic idc what anyone says

It's already a crutch for you. You've admitted to being an alcoholic.
It took me about half a year to feel normal again then I relapsed at about 8 months. Just stop before you cause damage to yourself.

Got a dui and had to wear an ankle bracelet as a condition of my bond for 3 months. I was drinking 2-3 forties every day or 300-400 ml of liquor. That particular night I had 12 shots of whiskey and a forty, did some whippits, then drove to get another forty. Bought the forty at 8:30 pm, got arrested at 3:30 am. No idea what I was doing at all but my Google maps app showed that I drove about 150 miles between those times.
I got arrested because I tried to go in the wrong house. About 3 miles away from where I live. I got into the fence and into the back yard but I couldn't figure out how to get out, so I punched a hole through the gate and opened the latch. It was the pain from the punch that "woke me up" and I was confused about why I was standing in someone's yard when I was just at a gas station buying a forty. I got in my car and headed home, but as soon as I got in the car the cops came around the corner behind me.
So I guess I have a problem.
First week of the bracelet sucked, second week was boring, by the 3rd week I couldn't care less. After I got the bracelet off on my birthday, I went out to drink. I had like 2 drinks and that was it.
About 6 months later I was right back to 2 forties a day
I don't think you can just "become a normal drinker" once you develop a habit

I'm 32, and I drink anywhere between 4-8 beers every night. There are two or three times a year that I do not drink, but that's about it. I generally do all of my drinking in a short period of time. I won't start drinking until around 19:30, and will be done drinking by 22:30-23:00 on work nights, and around 00:00-01:00 on weekends. I know I should cut back, but I really enjoy drinking. I also don't feel any pressure to stop. I'm happily married to an awesome wife, just bought a really nice house, have plenty in savings, and am generally very happy. Do what's best for you user.

I wish booze was my addiction right now kinda. got into opiate about 2 yrs ago and fuck do withdrawls kill.

>how long did you go without drinking in order to normalize yourself and operate as a "normal" drinker? Never. I couldn't grasp the concept of "don't drink till you black out". So I quit totally. 5 years, not a drop. But I fear that if I have even one, I'll have to have 60 more. Quitting completely wasn't difficult. Moderation was impossible. IDK why.
Elijah Anderson
I drink 10+ shots daily im probably becoming an alcoholic
Ryan Green
>I don't think you can just "become a normal drinker" once you develop a habit I've seen some do it. I sure as fuck couldn't tho. I've drank no alcohol in 5 years, none. My mouth still waters if I smell cranberries ( cape cods were my fav). But, I've seen others just cut back. I tried, I failed. So I quit totally. It was easier and it worked.

i had a carcrash after drinking too much years ago. it made me realize that i am not in control i think i didn't drink for almost a year afterwards. now i'm just drinking on parties, never too much, tbh i don't care about alcohol. i just hate the relationship with my dad. the day after my car crash was an eye opener. i talked a lot to him about the issues we have etc. never had a problem with it ever since. i just used it because i felt empty inside. i have a good job, a great gf and i'm happy how things are. alcohol just fuels the self destructive vibe in you and you keep jugging it because you know what it does to you. get your life in order and alcohol or whatever your "crutch" is wont bother you
Ayden Turner
you must have weird issues, dude. that really is a lot
Nathaniel Nguyen
>I don't think you can just "become a normal drinker" once you develop a habit if you've already given up you'll succumb anyways.

What also worries me is my heart. My dad had a heart transplant back in March 2019 after complications from a stroke in 2017. I'm overweight, about 23% body fat, work at a bank which can be stressing and anxiety-inducing. I know that quitting drinking altogether will eliminate a lot of social opportunities and quitting simply something I don't want to do. However, I have began drinking wile on lunch breaks from work and before my college classes (a shooter of Jack in the parking lots usually). I smoke weed too which, if anything, is more of a budget problem at times than a health issue.
Caleb Miller
If im addicted to alcohol I will not give a fuck about weed. Its like comparing pears to apples
Joshua Edwards
How fat are you?
Ayden Clark
I can relate. When I was about 18 I was drinking minimum 2 beers per day every day except Sunday. I went cold turkey for about 2 years and it stopped being a problem.
Ethan Smith
Did you have expensive tastes or were just drinking that frequently?
Jaxson Adams
He ever detail how he did it? The tapering, I mean. How was he able to harness it? Or what what his issue with drinking in particular?
Ryder Adams
It's weird actually writing it down, but I'm an alcoholic. Currently 32 and drink about 400ml of spirits daily. I've been drinking daily since about 20, although less when I was younger. that said, it hasn't affected my life in any negative way. I'm married, own my home, have an impressive career, and objectively wealthy. I don't drink before 7pm, have tons of great hobbies/interests, and remain extremely physically fit (boxing or lifting every other day for 2 hours). it's hard identifying that you're an alcoholic when everything is going well, but I know that it's a problem and absolutely need to cut back. I've had moments where I was successful but it never stuck. this obviously isn't advice, but feel you bro.

I’m a binge drinker alcoholic trying to quit the most I put in a night would kill most people no joke. Half a gallon vodka and like 12 beers the only reason I’m trying too quit honestly I do dumb shit when I’m drunk and now I’m getting mean. I’m almost a month sober plan on keeping it that. Unless it’s pot or shrooms. But I highly doubt I’ll any of that anytime soon.

yeah you definitely need to shed some pounds, but good news is that you'll find the process reduces cravings and makes you less inclined to drink out of sheer boredom/habit.
Dominic Kelly
Start a spreadsheet.
Log every drink you have. Start reducing, and chart the downward trend.

I never had to admit anything because it goes without saying. The presence of it throughout my life and seeing how it work through others has led me to where I am now. Not blaming, simply recognizing how it came to be this way. I want to prevent it from killing me.
Lucas Thompson
Im very similar to you except Im 40 and drink more like 500 ml. Im also successful. Need to stop boozing but I dont really care. Sounds stupid, but everything is comfortable
William Gutierrez
God damn
Any more

If you have the booze gene it only gets worse OP. You can find sobriety and get streaks going, but if you're like me, every time you drink you are going to want get shithoused, and you'll soon fall back down the hole.
When I'm drinking regularly I average about one pint a night. If its the weekends it's another 4-6 drinks on top of that pint.
The only way I can drink and not have it kill me is if I have friends watching my back and getting me out of trouble. Otherwise I'll likely end of up jail.
Anyways, I just started a new sober streak and I'm trying to hit 90 days. Best of luck OP. I recommend listening to podcasts about sobriety and smoking weed to help with cravings.

Alcoholic here. Drank 3 times in the past 2.5 years. Would rather feel negative emotions than feel drunk. Also. Addiction incest and sexual abuse all go hand in hand
Michael Barnes
What's an opiate hangover/withdrawal like? Don't be gay and make shit up, I actually want to know
Brayden Edwards
Have you had any health problems because of drinking that much?
Xavier Ward
Your wife enables your drinking, buddy. She may or may not realize it herself. Either way, it's happening.
Christopher Ward
No. Im pretty physically fit. Ive always worked out. Sometimes I have stomach cramps and diarrhea if I eat a weird lunch but thatz about it

I also have that same all-or-nothing mentality when it comes to drinking. Even if I'm around coworkers, I'll get buzzed at least to entertain myself. I have mild social anxiety, but it's centered on expectations and fear of the unknown, not an attention thing because I don't mind getting up in front of a crowd boozy or not.
